Larkfield Manor Brides

Larkfield Manor Brides

I know you have been waiting for me to let you know what happened when I went to do my final menu. Well, unfortunately, I needed to take some time to cool off before I did so....

When we first arrived, we met with Lisa, who is an ABSOLUTE doll. I love her. I was telling her about you guys, and how I was going to 'report' back to you. She said that was such a great idea (now, Im not so sure she feels that way).

I asked her if there were new owners. She said yes, that they took over 3 weeks ago(no more Gabe or Frank ) So, I asked why I was not notified of this. When I went in after Frank left, I was told that I was not notified because he was not management, but now it is management, and I was still not notified. Lisa apologized and I got over it.

So I asked if I could meet the new owners. She said sure, we would meet one of them in a little while. When my mom and I went into the lobby to try to look at the tables, Lisa introduced us to the owner Harry. I was completely turned off because he did not extend his hand to shake mine, but I was the better person, and extended my hand to shake his. My mom did the same.

So then he came into the room, and didnt shake my FH or my dads hand. I guess hes just not the shaker kind of guy (I miss Frank who would kiss EVERYONE!) So when he comes in the room, he doesnt greet anyone. Lisa continues to say that we would like pictures of a vienesse hour before we book it. I just wanted to see what it looked like. WELL...here's where the drama and the tears begin....

He said, oh no, I am not going to spend my time taking pictures. Im thinking about building and adding on to this place. So my face drops and I say, you will not take 2 seconds to snap one or two pics. And I said, are you saying that you are going to be building during someones wedding. So hes like yes, I will not take the pics. SO i proceed to start crying and leave the room. I wanted to slap him in the face.

So when I come back in, he's talking to everyone else saying the he does not know why I got upset and that he could take pics of a vienesse hour somewhere else and I would never know. So I said are you saying that you are deceitful? Shouldn't I be able to trust you. Well he got all flustered, and continued on with something else. He said that they are getting all new china and silverware and everything and he does not have to let us use it. So now my mom, who is very calm, started to get pissed. She didnt show it, but I knew it. My fh was like, we dont really care what we eat on. We would have used the other stuff anyway if Gabe was still here, so if you want to be like that, give us the old stuff. He never gets mad either.

So then he goes on about a cappuchino machine saying that he wont give it to us for the vienesse hour and crap like that. He was really really nasty. You cant even imagine.

Oh, and when i asked Lisa where the owners came from, she said various halls on the island. So i said, well where, and shes like oh I think Sandcastle and Woodbury Country Club. SO then I asked the owner, and he said, oh many on the island. And I said oh, which ones, and he said many onthe island. And i said, why are you being so vague. WHy wont you tell me. And hes like, well Sandcastle, and like 2 others. I have NO idea why he was so discreet about it

So my mother finally told him to leave. I said to him, this is supposed to be fun for me. I should not be leaving here crying, and she said NOTHING.

Then as we were leaving, the owner was in the lobby, and did not even say GOODBYE to us.

RUDE RUDE RUDE. Thats is all I can say. I would not let my mom put down more money because I was soooo pissed. I have an appt with the other owner tom, so I will let you know how it goes.

I know that all of our weddings will be wonderful. I dont want to get you nervous. He was just an arrogant A-hole, but I will not let him ruin one of the most important days of my life. Lisa is a doll, and I am just going to deal with her.

GOOD luck everyone, and dont worry, our DAY will be everything we imagine and more

FH is not happy about this post and neither am I. All I can do is go into our meeting with them with a positive attitude and take it from there. Thanks for keeping us posted though, I really appreciate it. Do you know when the expected renovations are scheduled to take place?

I am not sure about the renovations. Supposedly they are adding a second floor and are going to be charging $150 a head. I know the carpet was supposed to go in today. They are also putting marble in the foyer. They said no work will be done when there are weddings. But I am going to get it in writing that my guests wont be walking through hanging sheets, or have to cross over on a piece of plywood at my wedding. I would be sooo pissed!

OMG, i am so pissed off right now! my wedding there is in less than two weeks! i have a meeting with them this thursday and will make sure everything is taken care of. it's a good thing i had frank write on the contract that there would be no construction during the wedding. i will SUE them if there is anything going on. that would be so super embarrassing! i hope they get everything together, and soon .

Im sure everything will be fine...but def make sure you get it in writing about the construction---i would have them sign it too...they may say (i dont know if they legally can but) that Frank is no longer with them so they dont have to go by that no construction deal....but fight it tooth and nail!

Please let us know what happens!

I emailed z100 asking if they can play a phone tap on FH... told them to say they are doing construction a week before the wedding
Then I told them to tell him the carpets are going to be dark brown (he HATES dark carpets). I hope they call me back! He will go NUTS!!

Re: Larkfield Manor Brides

O.K. Girls. I'm REALLY glad that you started this thread. Let me give you a summary of my interactions and I hope that this shed's a little light on the situation.

My Fiancee and his mother went to Larkfield because we had gone to a wedding there and absolutely loved the food but when they arrived there was quite a wait and were about to leave when they met George. He is an amazingly sweet man. He gave them a great deal saying that they were going to be making some changes.

1. You don't have anything to worry about...they are not doing construction they are doing more of a 'face lift' and it all will be done Monday - Thursday.

2. I don't know who that a** was who you spoke to and I've never met Lisa but George is wonderful. It might be George's brother who I met last time - not a fan myself!

3. The changes he described are as follows:
New China, New Silverware, New seat covers in both the ballrooms and cocktail rooms, New covers for the cocktail hour tables to match the seat covers. They are going to re-paint and wallpaper as well as put down a new dancefloor (same as the old one just new) and new chandeliers. In addition to new carpet. They are removing all the fake plants and replacing them with real plants as well as putting granite (not sure if it is now marble) in the entryway.

O.K. so when my fiancee told me about this I asked why he got a good deal and he said because they don't pay for advertising they advertise through the people and they want to build the reputation up.

I didn't believe him being a skeptic so we went down there together. I was right....they were going under new management. I asked if the chef was the same and they said he was but that they were going to change the menu. I was uneasy but my fiancee really liked the place so we left a deposit and in the contract it states if we don't like what they have done with the place we will get our money back.

Now we were told most of the changes would be made by the second week of July. The only thing that wouldn't would be the landscaping because they are putting some waterfalls in the back or something... So we are supposed to schedule an official tasting and see the changes the second week of July.

As I mentioned we were a little skeptical but when we went to pick up the new menu George brought us in food from a party that was going on and it was DELICIOUS! In addition, his mother went there last Friday and they did start making minor changes in the lobby and landscaping. He saw her and brought her into the office to show her swatches of everything which he didn't have to do.

I am soooo sorry to hear that you were treated that way. I know that your wedding will be beautiful but noone deserves that type of treatment and I hope nothing like that happens again to anyone! Please FM me if you need anything

Re: Larkfield Manor Brides

I have info! I just came back from my meeting with Lisa and everything looks gorgeous! The new carpet is in, and it's beautiful ! They also put in a new dance floor and painted everything. They have fresh flowers everywhere, and the whole place smells new and fresh. Also, the chair covers were cleaned and pressed, the foyer was immaculate, and the staff was very friendly.
The new owners seem to really be fixing up the place nicely. I am so relieved and excited. Lisa was wonderful, as usual , and she addressed all of our concerns. I was a big pain with my million requests and details, but she listened to all of them and did her best to accomodate everything. FH and I feel confident that our day will be truly special there. If you're still contemplating a location, LM is the way to go.

Re: Larkfield Manor Brides

YAY, I'm so glad to hear that.

I'll be attending a wedding their next Sunday so I'll report back from the guests point of view.

And I have our meeting with Lisa to finalize the menu, linens, etc. I know it's early but we live OOT, and this is the last time FH and I will be there together. I'll be back, but he probably won't be back until before the wedding.

I'll keep you posted!
