I am going there this weekend. I asked the Banquet Mgr if they offer tastings and he said not until you book them! How are you supposed to book a CATERING HALL without tasting the FOOD???? I dont get this. Has anyone tried their food? I was told by a wedding consultant that you should always DEMAND a tasting....

When I was looking, I found that most places do not offer a tasting until you book.

I looked there, and they would not give a tasting until after you book. I just wanted to say that my FMIL LOVES Larkfield Manor, and I think she was a little disappointed when we didn't book there since she loves it so much. She has been to many functions there and always RAVES about the food. The quantity AND quality! I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
was it the acoustics that caused the music to be terrible? or just the dj/band they chose?
I dont think it is right that places dont let you try their food before booking....it almost seems like they have something to hide.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I demanded a tasting before I booked. I did not feel comfortable booking with them until I tasted their food. It is not customary for them to do it, but our banquet manager is so accommodating, even to potential brides. She managed to sqeeze us into one. Ask again after you visit, they may change their minds.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I booked with Larkfield without the food tasting. I loved the romantic look of the place and the fact that they only have two weddings at a time.
FYI...I have a coupon for $500 off for a wedding of 175 or more ($250 off for reception of 100 or more). If you plan to book with them you have to have the coupon with you. If you plan to book I can mail it to you. It expires 2/28/04

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
When we first went to Fox Hollow, we loved it & our only hesitation was because we had never had the food there.
Mr. Mel offered to buy us dinner there the next night & said 'If you like the food, you come in my office after & sign the contract'
We did just that & everything was AMAZING!
I definitely understand how you feel. Everyone has different taste (haha), so you want to make sure before you plunk down thousands of dollars, you like the food!
You would think by now, all these halls would understand that & maybe offer a food tasting event once every two months for potential clients.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
My hall offers Bridal Expos evey couple a months with a displays of all types of foods.
If you really like Larkfield Manor, I would let them know that but you are a litle hesitant on booking them because you never sampled their food.
Maybe they'll change their tune.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
We also looked at Larkfield Manor. I don't remember the name of the man we spoke with, but he said they have tastings (every Tuesday, I believe) and that after you book, you can go to the next tasting and if you don't like the food, he will refund your money and cancel the contract. He was THAT confident that you will like the food.
If you look and like the hall, you have nothing to lose by booking since you can get a refund. Just make sure you get that in writing if he makes that offer. Good luck!

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I booked with Larkfield and Frank has it in the contract that if you don't like the food after the tasting you'll get a full refund of your deposit no questions asked. My FH and our parents thought the food was great!

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I would either demand a tasting before you sign or have a 100% money back garantee after you book, but make sure to find out when the next tasting is. You don't want to wait too long and then not have any other options. I went to the Holbrook CC. They said they don't to tasting until after you book, unless you make it a big issue. I would do a search for Larkfied Manor, there are a bunch of people using them.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
This really isn't in response to food tasting, but Larkfield Manor itself. FH & myself went to visit Larkfield and I must admit I thought it was absolutely beautiful!
My problem was with the banquet manager. He was openly dissing other reception places, which I did not think was very professional. He also told us certain places were much more expensive than Larkfield, and after researching them, we found out they were not.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
Well I think the food tasting should be mandatory. That is just so silly, why after and not before. where is the logic with these people. You would like to know before you give them thousands of dollar. These catering hall are just ridiculous. ( I am partially venting here because of my own food tasting issue)

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I actually got to taste the food the night we (mom and I) went to look and it was delicious. But the banquet manager Frank put it in our contract that if my FI did not like the food our deposit was fully refundable. My parents, future parents-in-law and FI went on a Saturday night and had a full dinner with just us. There were no other couples. It was amazing. In case you're nervous, I've been back about 10 times since I've booked to ask questions and everyone there has been great. FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I got married at Larkfield this past August, and our guests are still talking about the food. It was amazing, great presentation and they serve six menu choices with seconds (that blew my ILs away)
Now, I booked with them in early 2002, so I dont know if policies changed, but we had a tasting prior to booking after asking Frank for one. We signed the contract the same day. Also, the tasting was just for us- we were in the cocktial hour room and we had waiter service just as if we were in a resturaunt. We had a sample of the appetizer, salad and all entrees. Frank even sent us home w. food.
I had a wonderful experience w. Larkfield, looked at 17 halls before booking and am so glad I found them. FM me if you want any more info...

Re: Larkfield Manor...food tasting?
I'm sure the food is great.. never been there but all the positive reviews on here are convincing. Still.. this is your day -- You and your FH. And honestly, you don't want anything to surprsie you that could be out of your control..don't leave anything to chance.. just ask em to taste da food.
If they say NO.. that's no prob.. it's probably still great food. you'll be fine... But I would insist since this is YOUR day.
