She worked as the Clinical Nurse for the Melanoma Service at the outpatient clinic for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In working with the top dermatologists, melanoma physicians and plastic surgeons in the world, she gained extensive knowledge in skin care. This serves as the foundation for LI Laser Associates.
How does it work?
Laser and light sources produce a bright beam of light that is preferentially absorbed by melanin (pigment) in hair and causes damage to the hair shaft and follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. The hair follicle is damaged or destroyed and the dark terminal hair is either removed or replaced with a vellus (fine, light colored hair). Note that laser is most effective when hairs are in their early stage of the growth cycle. Approximately 20-30% of your hairs are in the early stage during a treatment. Therefore, multiple treatments spread out 4-8 weeks apart (depending on area treated). How well you respond depends on several factors..the thickness and color of your hair, the timing of your appointments is critical in achieving the best results.
