Lasik Eye Surgery...

Has anyone had this? How effective is this? Have you had any problems? How much was it? Did insurance cover it? How long was your recovery time? How painful was it?

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery...

my DH had it done in november. We paid out of pocket, and i believe it came to $1300 total. He had terrible vision, (20/400) and had been wanting it for quite sometime,,,, he would have had to wait a while if he went thru his insurance- or with the military. it has been worth EVERY penny.... it was a little painful... and the tylenol PM they gave really didnt do much--- so i gave him benadryl to knock him out. When he woke up in the morning no pain and he could see the alarm clock for the first time in like 20 years!!! Hes been back to the doctor several times already jsut for checkups-- and sees perfectly at 20/20. He is also covered for the rest of his life-- should he need to be seen and it be redone for whatever the case may be....

we went thru lasik plus.... and they run specials all the time... FM if u want more info :)

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery...

Someone on here just recently had it done -- I think she posted a couple of weeks ago. I cannot remember her full screenname, but it includes Maureen. Hopefully she'll respond here... but if you search, you may find her posts.

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery...

I work in a lab that conducts mainly retinal research.... so we have collaborators who are truly top-tier opthamologists...

we had a lasik conversation last week. One of the opthamologists said 'did you ever realize that no one in our dept (dept of opthamology) has ever gotten lasik done?: Even the Dr.s with really horrible eyesight won't do it. We all wear glasses. Only one guy wears contacts.... no lasik...'

I asked him why, and he said he thought it might be risky in the long term. It's a new procedure, and no one knows how the cornea will age after lasik...

just an FYI....

I did the lasik surgery about five years ago. I had been wearing contacts/glasses for years and I was fed up. I had really bad vision too and I couldn't leave the house wo/my glasses/contacts. Anyway, I paid out of pocket for the surgery (insurance didn't cover the costs) and it cost me several thousands b/c it was many years ago. The only complaint that I have is that my vision is not perfect. While I don't need glasses during the day, I do need them to drive at night. I believe though that it was def. worth it.

Re: Lasik Eye Surgery...

I had it done two years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. At the time I did not have insurance so I paid for it out of pocket.

To be honest the procedure does not hurt at all. The best advice I can give is to get it done as late in the day as possible so that you can go to sleep soon after. I kinda freaked a little after the procedure becuase I could not open my eyes. I was told that this would happen but it still freaked me out. But I went home and went to sleep soon after and when I wike up it was like a miracle.

Go for it! It is so worth it.

I got lasik two years ago. It was so worth it. It took about five minutes and now my vision is perfect. I paid about $2400 out of pocket. I think there are some medical plans that cover the surgery. HTH
