YES - the day of the wedding, we had MANY no-shows and i cannot explain how upset/angry I was.

Out of all of them, only 1of them got in touch to apologize.

We had:
an entire family - 2 adults and 3 kids
2 more adults (but they called)
2 more adults (got in touch with my dad, valid, hospitalization reason)
1 more adult
1 more adult

I THINK that's it!

We almost had like 6 because we got married when that flu was going around. But everyone that had it that week ended up feeling better by the wedding, so we got lucky!!

We also had an OOT couple who flew in for the wedding only stay through cocktail hour. I guess they booked their return flight for 5am the next day adn didn't want to stay past 9pm. LOL. Very odd!

That stinks!!!
Past brides, in your opinion, is it always better to tell the RH about 2-4 people less?

I would! my place said that they can always add but will not refund any money. I would most definitely say a few less!

We also had no shows, probably about 8!!! I didnt let it bother me, their loss, and we only paid 2 half price plates over our min. so we would have had to pay it anyway.

It is still rude!

If you do that, then you cannot have a planned seat for them, nor can you have any place cards for them. If you do that, would the persons you 'left out' be insulted if they do show up and they do not have an assigned seat ?

I had 7 no-shows the day of, 3 of which I knew about the day after I made my final payment. I did receive a lovely gift from one of the guests.
The day of the wedding, and additional 4 did not show up. One couple did not come because the husband got stuck on a biz trip, but they sent along an envelope with another guest.
Of course I got upset, these were all DH's family, but what could I do ?
The RH packed up the 7 dinners and we sent them home with his parents.

I had 2 no shows..... Both were very good reason (I found out after). I didn't want to risk telling the RH a few less in case everyone came- that would be awkward and for place cards, etc. not work out.

Booo on them!

it's risky to do. we had to give our RH all of our placecards w/ names already on them, and an alphabetical list of all of our guests when we made our final payment. you also have to give them a seating chart that shows how many people will be at each table so the tables are set up correctly.

the day after we made our final payment we had someone call to say they couldn't make it, so we knew in advance that they wouldn't be there, but we had already given our #. lucky for us, we had no other no shows.

the risk is that you will need to deliberately have fewer settings on a table, no placecards for certain people, if you do infact give them a lower #. it suxx, but they know how to make sure they get every last dime out of you!

I disagree...you can totally have correct seating a nd place cards. i know people who made to separate charts and gave the correct table #'s the day before. They can always accomodate if you need to add. And you don't have to bring the place cards to them till the day before if you don't want. I think it would work out!

I guess it depends on your RH...mine didn't need things like the card or the list when i paid so i could've gotten away with it.

Well, yes, you can always add people (remember to bring cash to pay for them), but if you purposely leave someone out to have a lower final count, would that person be insulted if they did show up and not have a seat assignment.

I had 4 no-shows the day of - no preadvice that although they responded yes they would not be able to make it. It would be different if they let me know prior to me making the final payment, which was done four days before my wedding.

I had 4 people cancel on me the week before the wedding after everything was paid off, but I didnt have anyone actually not show up at the wedding on the day of.

im going to give a 2-4 people less count

if i have to adjust table seatings - i'll do it on my family table - i'll let my parents/brothers know - then nobody will be insulted and if someone at another table doesnt show - they can just move the table settings.

yes and from what i hear its common. I had people who never told me ahead of time they wouldnt make it and the day of they just never showed, not many but a few. Honestly not much you can do, it is what it is and you wont care that day. No matter what we all have a minimum to pay for and this is a number we picked before we even sent out invitations so were stuck with it. If bc of this you will be below your minimum then make sure they throw things in. Its 2 people so not bad at all, you dont have to change the seating
