If I am not mistaken (this has come up several times on 2010 boards, that's the only reason I know) you can no longer keep your last name as a middle name.......it HAS to be hyphenated....you used to be allowed to use your maiden name as your middle but I am 99% sure you are not allowed to anymore!
Personally, I am taking his!

You can't do it automatically but you can do it by going to court and applying for a legal name change. I did this and had to wait 6 weeks for the judge to approve it, now I have to publish the new name in a newspaper and bring back proof to the judge before I can get it approved. It is a big hassle and I am not sure I even want to keep my maiden name as my middle name anymore. Is anyone else going through this??

Re: Last name question
I am not completely changing my name. I put his name down on the marriage license but am keeping my maiden name professionally.

Re: Last name question
I didn't hyphenate, I spaced them. So my legal name is now my Maiden then his New.
I have a lot of names now!
Where I moved (NC), they automatically make your maiden name your second middle name when you get married (isn't that nice of them???) so even though I legally have two last names, and all my documents have four names, here they just assume my maiden is my second middle name and call me by his last name, which is what I wanted. It's really been very convenient.
Right after our wedding, I was kicking myself for us getting our license in Brooklyn since it took FOREVER for it to get to us (6 or 7 weeks!) but then I heard a lot of the LI girls couldn't do the space and were forced to hyphenate, so I was glad we went in Brooklyn where they let me put the space in.

You also have to apply for a new birth certificate. I was going to change my last name a whilte back, applyed but decided not to go ahead with it as it's such a hassle. Also, I'm taking FH's last name. I hate my last name so can't wait to get rid of it.

Re: Last name question
I'll be taking his last name. It's just tradition for me. Also, I think it presents a more united front for when you have kids. I want us all to have the same last names.

Re: Last name question
I hyphenated my last name. I think DH would have liked me to just take his name but I really did not want to change my name so I hyphenated it and DH and I are both happy

This is so strange to me. I went to the social security office and legally changed my name from Kate Mary Reilly to Kate Reilly Mulligan
I got the card 10 days later. I know I got married in Jan but I actually changed my name in October. Sorry you guys are going through this - I had no problems, it was a pleasure and so easy!
