last night I had the the test where they measure the neck and the nasal bone...

Is that the nucheal screen? We don't get that here, heck we only get a dating ultrasound at 10 weeks and that's it.
I have my AFP on the 20th though.

What week are you in? I think you are reffering to the Ultrascreen test. I had this done at Week 12.

It is an ultrasound where they measure the back of neck of the baby (the fluid) and then they take 5 drops of blood on a certain paper.

I had it done if this is what you are reffering to. And everything came back normal.

At 20 weeks they do a Ultrasound, i think they refer to it as 'The Big U/S'. Its an extensive U/S they check all this stuff all over again MINUS the blood work. I just had that done and everything was Perfect.

i mean to also say that before your 20 week they do the AFP test (which someone just posted about) its just another blood work test but tests for down syndrome as well as a few other things. Its a personal decision to take that test, if you read the afp thread you will see why.

I went for it b/c the 12 week test was fine and I figured why not know if they can tell me.

Actually i was the one to post about the afp test! All these tests are making me crazy! Although I cant say I minded getting that ultrasound last night it was incredible!!

You said the ultrasound was AMAZING right!! It sure is...I loved how from week 12 to week 16 the baby was so different!

ok so let me tell you I went for the AFP test MAINLY just so I could have another sono and see my peanut...how selfish

I had that test - it's called the Nuchal Fold test. There are supposedly indications in the developing baby at that stage that they can tell by measuring to see if Down's Syndrome is indicated. The blood test tells you about Down's and trisomy. It does not tell you if the baby has either - only amnio will tell you that. What it does is compare you to others who are your age and tell you the probability. For example, if the possibility for Down's at your age is 1 in 500, and your test comes back 1 in 750, you have a better chance than average of having a child without Down's.

I also had AFP - my doctor only uses AFP to look for indications of spina bifida. The test can also be used for Down's but my doctor only uses it for the other. Again, the test is only an indicator and if there are positive results it can indicate something else. It just means that hormone or protein or whatever they look for in the bloodwork is not at the level it should be.
