last single holiday season

It has just started to dawn on me that we are approaching my (and your) last single holiday season. Craziness!

I am excited about our new traditions but will miss some old ones.

Re: last single holiday season

i know! Yikes!

I'm not looking foward to splitting up the holidays... Especially since both sets of parents are divorced

I think it's gonna be FFIL's for Thanksgiving, FMIL for Christmas Eve and My Mom for Christmas (since they're both on LI). And then my poor Dad get's Easter (which actually works out since he's in VA)...

I'm kind of looking foward to having kids - it will be our excuse for having to stay home

I know, it has just started to hit me, and I am surprised by how emotional it feels.

Re: last single holiday season

This started bothering me last night when my FH said he wanted to stay at his sister's over Christmas for 5 days. Our orginal plan was to go to Hilton Head where his mom lives and my family would come down as well.
But what about my friends in NY that I only see 2x a year??? I now hoping that my family will still come to Virgina for the holiday so we all will be together. Even so, I will be so sad not spending Christmas in NY- my first one in over 33 years! Hopefully we will get to spend New Year's in NY.

Re: last single holiday season

Should be interesting next year! We are getting married right before Thanksgiving and wil be away for it during our honeymoon... We might celebrate it with both sets of parents when we get back...

Christmas is easy, his family celebrates more on Christmas Eve and mine on Christmas day but the other holidays are going to be a pain!! I am not looking forward to making these decisions! We still spend the majority of holidays with our own families!

Re: last single holiday season

You guys who all live in the same state as your families have it easy!!!! I am so jealous. If that was true we would all just spend it together since that is the way our families are. Now my FH just called(as I was typing about this very subject) and told me Christmas is back in Hilton Head! Being single was definately easier in this area I will tell you!

I agree - I've only got my Dad in Virginia with me...

Thanksgiving will be upstate, and then Christmas on LI... it's the mom's and then other family obligations... i don't know how i'm gonna fit it all in in a week

Re: last single holiday season

Wow, I really never thought about it that way. I've just been waiting for New Years so I can finally say 'I'm getting married this year'!
My family always gets together Christmas Eve since my grandfather passed away 20 minutes before Christmas in 1977. It has been tradition since then. FI and I talked about it since his parents usually celebrate Christmas Eve too. We figure since we are the only ones w/o kids, things should end early enough for everyone to get the kids in bed and he and I can go see his parents afterwards (we are hosting this year). Then we end up having Christmas day all to ourselves!!!!!!

Re: last single holiday season

I'm ok with this being my last holiday season as a single gal.
All of my family is close by and so is my FH's. My family always celebrates christmas eve and his family does christmas day.

My parents though is a different story. They live in another country and either way we don't see each other for the holidays.

Forget the holidays.... I think the whole idea of being married will be strange enough. It's going to be tough leaving my sisters.

Re: last single holiday season

We've been spending holidays together (and with our familes together this year!) so I don't see it changing that much... I guess we're lucky b/c we have small IMMEDIATE families for Holidays, and people that can be easily 'left out' (i know, rude!) when both familes are together!

So, it will be interesteing to see how it plays out for EACH year!

Re: last single holiday season

we actually talked about this in Pre-cana.

this is the one thing that we have totally lucked out on. i was really sad to think about giving up the holidays w/ my fam, but FHs family lives all over, so his parents always celebrate the holiday either the weekend before or the weekend after,,, so that no one has to stress out, but everyone gets enough quality time together
