what are the laws for nassau county? a reception hall with the initials AW is literally harassing my sister calling her at work and home and from collection agencies saying she owes them money...she sent them a letter cancelling a few days before her 1 yr mark...she didn't ask for her deposit back...they have her deposit and are still harassing her. my sis had to get a lawyer but the calls won't stop. They had better back off before i take a trip there myself.
ETA: no offence to girls getting married there...but for how they handled this situation...I'm glad my sis didn't get married there.

Re: laws on cancelling RH
Nassau does not have the same laws as Suffolk County---there is no time frame of cancelling--its all what the contract states. so if the contract states she is responsible for the remaining balance--she probably is.
many halls in Nassau are notorious for being insensitive to brides who are cancelling weddings more than a year in advance. i've seen it on here before.....you should have your sister contact a lawyer to review her contract.

I am not a lawyer, but a law student, so this is not meant as legal advice and your sister's lawyer should advise her, but my feeling is that whether or not you sister has to pay the remaining balance, the hall CANNOT contact your sister after they know she is represented by a lawyer. Once they know that, they must stop communicating with her and only contact her lawyer. Next time they call her, make sure she says that she knows they cannot contact her and that the must only contact her lawyer, and that she'll take appropriate legal action if they continue.
