I totally feel like our lawyer is too much money?? He's charging us $1200....is this comparable to everyone else???? I thought most lawyers for closing were between $700 and $900????

where is the house, and is there anything unusual about the closing (i.e. - zoning issues, tenants, etc.)? In NYC, attorneys charge minimum $1500 but on LI, I've seen anywhere from $750 - $1500. You could probably get a cheaper quote.

Our closing costs came to $1400. Thats for how many hours she spent doing work for our house, the traveling costs and anytime she had to overnight something to the house. (contracts, etc...)

When we brought last year, I called around and all the real estate lawyers I contacted were between $750-850

The firm that I used to work for charged about that much... it is on the high side, I do suggest you shop around a bit.

My lawyer who works in Queens (considered NYC I guess) told me she charges $850 for co-op closings and $1000 for home closing.

Thanks ladies. I think we are goign to change lawyers. My brothers lawyer quoted me $850.00 If only DH had asked this very important question a week ago when he first talked to him. We haven't signed anything with the current lawyer we were working with and I was told it's no big deal to switch. Hopefully this is the truth. I've learned that you can be told 20 different answers to the same question during the 'house buying' process. This whole thing is so aggravating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
