I have friends who went to both and those at NYU had a much better quality of life. (I say that as a Columbia alum)

Has he sat in on classes?

I would say Columbia - BOTH are excellent - but I think Columbia might have a better alumni support. I have friends at both - I don't think you can go wrong either way. Good Luck to him it will be a long three years!

I am an attorney. Been practicing for 5 years now and I say NYU for sure!! Obviously they both have stellar reputations but as an attorney, when you meet someone that went to NYU, it's like the same as saying they went to Harvard Law!!

Congrats to you FH. He has a great career ahead of him graduating from either of those schools!!

both flip-flop every year on the top 10 list for spots 4 and 5. so either choice will be invaluable in obtaining jobs (esp in NY). have your fh look at exactly what he wants out of a law school. i wanted a good clinical program so i ended up at georgetown. he may also want to call the admissions office of both schools to get names of current students who can offer some advice. But to reiterate, either one is excellent and will make for a long and prosperous legal career!

I agree with Sandy. He should think about what kind of law he wants to practice. I went to University of Maryland which just cracked into the top tier (top 50 law schools) this year, but it is consistently in the top ten clinical programs. US News and World Report just recenlty ranked the law schools again and that is a pretty good resource.

For the most part, his choice being Columbia or NYU, he is in a win-win situation.
