One of my BMs and I are studying for the NY bar and we have no idea how to study for the next 2.5 weeks. We're both doing Bar/Bri. I'm also doing the BarBri 3 day Essay Advantage and PMBR. I'm not too worried about the MBE, but what is the best way to approach the NY material? I tried making flashcards, but there's too much material. I can't just have a card with the elements for conspiracy because I need to worry about all the other issues like withdrawal. Should we just rely on condensing notes and reading the Conwviser Mini Review? Also, should we allocate our studying time per subject on the BarBri frequency chart? Thanks so much!!

Re: Lawyers out there? I have a bar exam question
I honestly didn't study as much as I should have, but I did make flashcards. If you don't want to do that, revise your outline by writing it over and over until you can cut down to the basics and pretty much write it from memory. Repetition is pretty much the only way to absorb that much stupid information into one human brain. You'll never remember it all...just make sure you know your multistate really, really well and know the major differences between the common law and NY law in each area of law.
Good luck! I do not wish to be in your shoes again for as long as I live!

jenniesunshine - I'm studying for the PA bar right now... if it helps any, I've noticed one thing that really commits this junk to memory - I spend about an hour every night with FH explaining the topic to him, and all the various elements of each theory... after going through the torture of explaining this stuff to a complete stranger to the law, I find that it's really stuck in my head.. at least for now

Re: Lawyers out there? I have a bar exam question
I followed the BARBRI recommendations exactly. I just went over those outlines they give you, the ones that are only a few pages per subject..and whenever something didn't click, I would go to the Conviser mini review, and if it still didn't click, I'd go to the more detailed books.
All I can say is that they know what they are doing, follow their schedule and you'll pass.

Re: Lawyers out there? I have a bar exam question
You know what? I didn't really 'study' so much, I just practiced writing the essay questions, read older essay questions and answers. I think for me anyway, the practicing really helped. You learn what to expect and how to write it. Good luck, I'm moving out to CA and have to do it all over again. I get the shakes just thinking about it.

Re: Lawyers out there? I have a bar exam question
My personal opinion-- if you do really, really, really well on the MBE part, your NY does not matter so much. I know that my essays were crap and the NY multiple choice were ridiculous, but I did very well on the MBE and I passed. Just read your outlines from class and read the answers to some essays on topics you have trouble with.

Re: Lawyers out there? I have a bar exam question
I was a Pieper gal. I did flashcards, and practiced essays. I did what the instructor told me, and passed the first time.
Just keep in mind in teh few days before the bar exam- your brain is going to get fried and you will be studing less and less- THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL!!
