Fh said maybe it's a good diea if we lease a car (lower monthly payments) and then when the lease is up we'll already be married so the wedidng will be behund us ) we'll pay the $$ at the end to buy the car.
What are the pros and cons of this?

Re: lease to own?
Well, you have to do the math and make sure that you are not paying more money in the end just for lower monthly payments. That's the one thing that would concern me.

Re: lease to own?
Mainly, you will pay a lot more for the car than it's worth- I think I ended up paying about $15k for a car that I could have bought for about $11k. But it was a good choice for me at the time because I parked it on the street in Queens and I work in an area with a lot of car theft/vandalism.
What about leasing something used? You can lease a car that someone turned in off a lease for a lower price than leasing something new. Then after the wedding you can turn it in for something new, when $ is not such an issue.
ETA: I mean if you choose to buy the car you leased you will probably pay more- that is what I did. Just wanted to clarify.

Re: lease to own?
You can get a brand new Honda for under $250/month, even if you are buying it. Car makers are so desperate now to sell, they are really flexible. IMO, leasing is much more expensive B/C at the end you have to pay a sum to own it, where when you buy at the end of 48 months you own it outright.

Re: lease to own?
thanks ladies. I'm going to take that advice. I don't want to pay more $$ for the car. I think we're going to try to find something we cn afford the payments for. I just have to keep telling myself it's FH's train station car, it's not OUR car..and if we get a car that's inexpensive we won't feel so paranoid about it. We won't need lojack, etc etc. Like my car isn't THAT expensive a car, but I'm really really paranoid about it. I get pissed over the littlest things..every little ding and scracth pisses me off, etc etc. If wer got an inexpensive car we can beat it up, drive it on long trips and not care..by the time we have problems with it, we'll be ready for a new, better car.
i'm going to look into those hondas though. Fh's dad is trying tog et us to buy a hyundai.,..but I just HATE them.

Re: lease to own?
a + to leaseing is, aftwards the term is up 24mths, 36mths..whatever, you can lease another car, or if your ready to buy at that moment, you can buy. yes..it looks like you are paying more if you buy it at the end but it's convient for the payments.
if you do lease, just watch your mileage

Re: lease to own?
I love leasing... but i have heard that you should never buy at the end of a lease because you wind up paying more for the car...

Re: lease to own?
I am so againts leasing. I feel like you pay and you pay and you never own anything..but right now we're interested in low payments. I have all of these dealers e-mailing me.
Does anyone have any negotiation tips? Even when I was selling cars I didn't learn about negotiation, because I worked in the internet department and we gave everyone our 'no haggle price' and that was it. We sold a lot of cars that way, and most people liked it. I just feel like a lot of these dealers thik I'm stupid. they're saying 'Msrp on this car is ____' and it'll be MUCH higher than what msrp actually is, and then they'll say 'our price is _____' and it'll be a couple bucks below what the ACTUAL MSRP is, and they make it look like you're getting $2K off MRSP when it's really only $500

Re: lease to own?
I like leasing because I always want something new. I love my CR-V right now and am leasing it. If in the end I love it, I will either buy it out (if I don't like the new one or something different when it is up) or I will buy the newer version of the vehicle. If I like something else, I will lease it.
The pros to leasing
1) If you need a low monthly payment, you can buy out at the end. Even if you are paying more than the vehicle is worth at the end, some people just can't afford the higher monthly payment. At this point if you can't afford to buy it out, you can take an auto loan.
2) After 3 or 4 years, you can have something new again
It really depends on what you can do. Not everyone can afford a payment to buy a car, so even if you are paying more for the vehicle, it gives you the time and lower monthly payments that you need. I don't think it is a bad choice- the only way it would be a bad choice is if you could afford the payment to buy, but are opting to lease (except of course if you want to drive something new every few years.)
I guess I am talking in circles now . . . good luck with your decision.
