Leased Cars: Have you ever turned it back in? I need your help!
Ok, so Jim’s lease is up.
They are sending out ‘inspectors’ to view the vehicle for excessive wear & tear. Have ANY of you who have ever leased and returned the car, taken your vehicle to a place who will recondition it?
Hey Scott?? Wanna help us out with this? How much?
I really can’t afford to be hit with a extra charge on the car.
Any ideas??
TIA

It should be fine... they just look for dents and dings (I know Ford, has a measurement they go by for these), damage to the upholstery, mileage, stuff like that. I would not be too worried about it.

I just recently turned in my Mustang and Ford just checked the mileage, the condition of the exterior and interior...that's about it.

they check for mileage and dents and MAJOR dings. I had a few scratches and dings but nothing that warrented extra costs ... it ws sooo easy!

Im just worried because it’s a Hyundai Tibron. It’s VERY curvy. So it always gets dinged. Nothing like a dent but lots of little dimples. Scratches are normal I guess. He has a dent in his front rim from a pot hole and I can see on one of his back tires he got too close to a curb and scratched the rim.
Other than that, nothing wrong with the car.

Many times if the scratch or ding is not larger than the size of a credit card they let it go.
If you have any large dents I would get them fixed....but I would leave the dings alone...they are part of normal wear and tear!

I don't think they would be that picky about it. Not to worry.

My brother turned in a leased Honda & I think he had a decent sized dent form a small parking lot accident & it was less$$ to get it fixed on his own, then turn it in that way. I think he called & they were pretty upfront about it & told him he could save $ if he got it fixed.
I'm not sure where exactly you draw the line between minor & significant damage.

Unless the car is really banged up, I wouldn't be too worried about it..
then again, it also depends on the company. When I turned in my Nissan Altima about 5 years ago, they were EXTREMELY picky and noticed every little thing on it.. I had to replace my windshield because of a little chip in the middle of it, (which my insurance covered) and then they allowed me to turn it in.
However just this past May I turned in my Honda Accord and it had some major dings and scuffs on the bumper, and they didn't say ANYTHING about it. In fact, the inspector was there all of 10 minute before he was satisifed. I was sure they would bring it up, but they didn't
So unless the mileage has gone over or the car is a serious wreck, you shouldn't have any problems.
Good Luck!

Felicia,
Which Honda dealer was that? I have to return my Honda and I was worried about all the marks.

I live in Westchester, so I turned my car into the Honda dealer located in Yonkers..
However -- if you are leasing thru Honda Finance Corp, you have to arrange to make an appointment for the inspection thru them..if you are a few months away from your deadline, they probably sent you some literature by now on what the steps are to proceed with this process.
The inspector comes to your house, that was the way it happened for both my Nissan's and my Honda. Honda does not send a person from your local dealer, they work for the company directly.
If the inspection goes well, the inspector tells you what to do next -- they mark down your mileage and whatever little things they found wrong, etc.. at which point you can usually call any Honda dealership local to where you live to make an appointment to actually turn the car in. At the dealership they'll give the car a once over, and compare it to the inspectors report -- just to make sure the mileage still hasn't gone over, and that there are no additional dings, scratches from when the inspector looked at it.
Hope that helped ! Good Luck

Felicia,
Thanks so much. I also live in Westchester, but leased the car from Huntington Honda. I have not received any info yet. I will keep my eye open for it.
My front bumper is all banged up. I do know that I have the gap insurance through Honda, but I do not know if this will cover it.
