Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

I may be wrong, but when FH went to Finance a car a few years ago, he had to have everything in his name to drive out of the dealership with the car. The insurance and everything had to be in his name for at least 30 days, then he was able to switch the insurance into his fathers name for a cheaper rate.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

I do not think you can do that. I know that you cant buy a car in someones name and have the insurance under another.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

If you put both names on the lease, like a co-signer, the insurance can be in either of those 2 people's names...I BELIEVE!! Don't quote me on that though.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

I think as long as the car is registered under the same name as the insured, it shouldn't be a problem - parents who buy cars for their kids must do this stuff all the time, no? Worst case, you might have to do a co-signer thing, but I'm not positive.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

Well.. this i know.. My FH has a leased vehicle and will be put onto my policy. I think that he has to be listed as an additional driver on my vehicle and me on his to do this. It's all about insurable interest.

It's easier when we're married. Then we just drop his car on to my insurance no big deal.

Just some info.
I'd recommend calling your insurance to find out. That's the easiest way.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

All that DMV cares about is that the registration and the insured match. They don't care whose name is on the title or the lease info. That being said the leasing company may require you to have everything in only one person's name. It really depends on them. Also there are some insurance companies that require a copy of the title once you get it. They do this to see if you are hiding any drivers in the household who might be a bad risk. I used to be a property and casualty agent and wrote primarily auto policies.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

T,

We live Fl and we leased a jeep. We were approved for purchase but not for lease.
So my mom (in NY) is listed as the leasee and DH as the co-signor. The insurance is in DH's name.

So to make a long story short, yes you can lease it through dad and insure & reg under you or ronnie.

Re: Leasing!!!!!!! Can you?

Theresa I am pretty sure that Florida is the same unless something has changed in the last 3 or 4 years. You should be able to do it that way at least for DMV purposes. Again every leasing company is different so as long as it's okay with them it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Just to make sure I would check with Fl DMV. I just checked their website and it looks like it's okay, but only on a leased car. Apparently DMV in Florida requires the owner and registrant to be the same excpet on leased cards. Anyway here is a link to their site. I still think you should call just to be sure that it's not a problem. Hope it helps.
