Leelee!!

I was just reading the get to know you thread.....I think that is so cool that you are semi-pro in archery - kudos!!

And are you really a glassblower by hobby??? You are definitely a first for me!!!!!! What have you blown? LOL - that sounds funny to me!!

Re: Leelee!!

LOL!!!! Yes...it's true! I shoot a bow and arrow (and I'm darn proud of it!) and have blown glass! I've made lots of glass flowers, glasses, etc. I stink at it but there's always room for growth!
I've had a few life goals...1 of them was to blow glass. The other is...to play the bagpipes! I'm still working on that one!

Thank you for making me feel very special!

Had to edit this...my original choice of words was bleeped out!

Re: Leelee!!

Such a funny question!! LOL!! One might begin to wonder about me!
I want to take more lessons..if you're interested, you can take lessons at the Urban Glass Center in Brooklyn! That's where I learned!

Re: Leelee!!

My husband would be so proud if I learned to 'blow' more.....ok, I'll stop - don't want to get banned!!!!!

How much were lessons (although I'll probably never go - I'm just now trying to get into scrapbooking)

Re: Leelee!!

LOL!!! I'm cracking up!!! Luckily for me...Peter came with me and learned how to blow too! LOL!!
The lessons were on the pricey side..
You can do a weekend workshop, which is pretty intensive, for about $400 per person!
I'm going to dive into scrapbooking too! I'm going to Tammy's party next week! Can't wait!!

Re: Leelee!!

Yay!!!!! Me too!!!!! so i get to see you twice in one week!!

Oooof - that's too pricey for me - we have hit the 'house poor' limit

Re: Leelee!!

No way!!! Awesome!!!! I can't wait!! A week to go!!!
Yeah..the lessons were very expensive but I can now check off one of my life goals!

Re: Leelee!!

That's really neat.......I guess I should set more goals for myself.......

Re: Leelee!!

LOL!!!! THAT IS SOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!
I love kids...they say the funniest things!!! You should feel great about what you do!! I've been in the book publishing industry for a long time now and I can honestly say...I think reading is becoming a kind of lost art! It's great that you do something you love!!
I'm attempting to go back to school now to follow my original plan..becoming an elementary school music teacher!

Re: Leelee!!

Yes I remember you asking questions about certification......that will be so wonderful once you do it - kids are the best. I don't think I could ever get tired of my job.

Yes, reading has lost its luster to TV, movies, video games, etc.......kids are very visual creatures in our society. That's why it's so important to try and make media tie-ins whenever possible. I try and tell the kids things that might not have known if they just saw the movie. And sometimes they don't know that movies are books first...

e.g. Did everyone know that Shrek was a book first - written by William Steig - same author/illustrator of Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and Doctor De Soto....

Re: Leelee!!

So cool!! I didn't know that!! I worked in a small independent bookstore for years...it was my favourite job!!!
That's phenomenal Marni!! Keep up the great work...these kids will remember you forever for it!!!
And I'll bet all the little boys have major crushes on you!

Re: Leelee!!

hahaha - no! They are at the age of 'yucky girls'...LOL

I worked in a HS for 5 years before this school and that was a different story (the ages of 23 - 28), so that was pretty tough at the time (I also looked very young).

Thanks for the kind words Leelee!!!!! You're gonna be a great teacher too!!!

Re: Leelee!!

Yikes!! 23 to 28 in HS? Wow!! That must have been quite a challenge!!!
Thank you so much for your vote of confidence! I hope I'll be a good teacher...I get nervous!!!
