Leg Cramps?

Leg Cramps?

Has anyone experienced this? Last night (around 2am) I got the worst charlie horse in my calf. It hurt so bad, my foot was stuck in a pointed position and because of my belly I couldn't grab my foot to flex it to take the cramp away (a trick I learned in scuba class). So like an idiot I tried to get out of bed and fell down. DH had to wake up to pick me up because I couldn't get myself up. Today my calf is still sore Has anyone else experienced leg cramps? It has happened to me several times but this was the worst.

Yes and OUCH! I got them often in the second trimester! (Although the frequency seems to have eased now at the beginning of the third) I usually just stayed in bed with my face in my pillow until the worst of the pain passed, and then walked it off as it eased up. Not fun at all!!!

I had them a lot when I was pregnant. And for me it would hurt for a day or 2 after. I've read to stretch before you get into bed, but it didn't help for me.

I had them a lot in the middle of my pregnancy. Some so severe it hurt for a day or two later. They calmed down as I got into my third trimester but they started back up the last week or two. From my reading and from what my doctors said - make sure you are hydrated and increase calcium intake. Since I don't drink a lot of milk - my doctor recommended 2 tums a day. It helped for me. A friend's dr said also lack of potassium. She would eat a banana a day and they decreased for her.

If you catch them before they are in full effect - flex your foot immediately. Don't point it. Helps stop them! It is hard at first but I have become a pro at feeling them coming on and it has sooo helped!

OUCH! These hurt like a b_tch. I had them. My mom also used to get them- not sure if that means anything but ask your mom if she ever had them too.
The bananna a day helped me a lot with this problem.

I think they are something I am just going to have to deal with because I eat a bananna everyday and I usually have at least one glass of milk. Plus I drink a ton of water. So I don't know what else to do. Thanks for all the advice ladies!

Hopefully they ease up soon....... I know I was having milk and yogurt each day and the tums helped for a supplement. You never know the baby may just be at a point where it more calcium or something than it did in the past...I know I am on the GD diet now and I have to have a glass of milk or yogurt each day plus a calcium supplement and lots of cheese. Good luck...hope it eases up soon!! : )
