Legal Advice

If someone sends you a threatening email on facebook, what do you do with it? I dont know this girl, but according to my FH she lives in the neighboring town and is friends with his sister who I dont get along with. The email was a blatant threat.

I know it's not funny but that was my 1st thought

ETA: As far as I know NY has no laws governing threats over the internet..try calling 311 they have info for everything.

You're probably right! All these girls act so tough...yet no one says anything to me...just threatening emails left and right

Don't you just love computer muscles!!!!! It's amazing how some people will never grow up. I say pass it along to Facebook and ignore her. Most of the time people like that get more annoyed when they don't get a rise out of you.

Re: Legal Advice

You can go to your police precinct and file a complaint of harassment. It qualifies as a communication meant to harass/annoy you and you have it documented. Is there a background thing going on with this girl or was it out of the blue?

ETA: Regarding the laws in NY and all, it doesn't matter that it's over the internet, it is a communication.. whether its a phone call, text message, or email, it still counts as her bothering you.

As far as if you think it's worth it to pursue it criminally you do have options - although whether that would actually do anything, if a visit from the cops would deter her or piss her off more and give her attention, that's another story.

what is ur fh doing bout this?

Re: Legal Advice

I think you should save it and forward it along to some type of authority, whether it be Facebook administrators or someone else. In case something escalates or they keep coming, the original message is on record which is good for you.

you can report her...goodluck

Re: Legal Advice

Definitely forward it to facebook administration. That way you've CYA - the ball is in their court to investigate it. Heaven forbid it escalates, you have it documented that you took action and reported it. Also, make sure you print out everything, including proof that you made a complaint to FB.

He actually emailed the girl back and told her to stay out of family issues etc. He also clarified that it was HIS family member that started this crap...not me
