Does anyone know any information to find out if a couple is still married. My closet friend have been separated, from her husband for many years. But, she is suspicious, that her husband divorced her-secretly.
Any website, that I can check to make sure, she is wrong

Can you legally divrorce someone without them knowing? I thought there were papers to sign.

Yeah I thought the other person had to sign something. Do you recall ever signing something. Hopefully you weren't tricked into signing anything.

If she lives in NY, she would have to sign some sort of papers to get a divorce, even if it was uncontested. Outside of NY, I'm not to sure of the laws.
Divorce decrees are public records, like a marraige license so she should contact her town.
