Legally Married? Dumb question

When am I suppose to go? How soon before the wedding?

I'm so confused!

Once you are 60 days out you can get it, but it has to be 24 hours before your ceremony. If you do it in the city, you only need your passport but if you go to a town hall on LI you usually need your birth certificate also (at least for Brookhaven town you do). I'm getting mine on Friday... think I waited long enough???

you are applying for a license to get married, you wont get legally married there. They do have chapels for those who wish to do so but you are only getting a license and you do it no more than 60 days before the wedding bc it expires after 60 days

You get your marriage license, with that license you have 60 days to get married either by a church, justice of the peace, anyone licensed to perform marriages in NY State. When tou get married at a church your officiant and your and your witnesses(MOH & BM) will sign it and the church takes care of sending it to the state. After the state recieves it they will send you back your marriage certificate, which justifies that you are legally married.

HTH.

Ususally you sign it right after the ceremony...it's done very discreetly.

You and FH both have to appear together, in person, at any town or city hall in the entire state of NY (if this is the state in which you're getting married)....it does not matter which one. So if he's in CA, he has to get here sometime before the wedding (w/in 60 days of it) and you must go get it together. It expires because once you actually get married there's no longer a need for it be active. A marriage license is basically an application to be married in the state of NY, once you're actually married, the 'application' isn't necessary to be valid, cause now you're married. You can get it anytime w/in 60 days of your wedding but, you have to get it at least 24 hours beforehand, so don't go the day before becuase it won't be valid.

We signed ours at our rehearsal, as did our witnesses, the Priest signed it after the Mass.
We had our marriage certificate waiting in our mailbox when we got home from our honeymoon.

I've always seen it signed right after the ceremony..but most wedding I've been to haven't been catholic weddings..so maybe tat's why...or that's just how that church handled it.

after Rehearsal is a great idea though
