What time does your ch at the reception hall start?? Right now I am running into problems because I love the fact that the ch doesnt start till 7:30 pm...but the ceremony for the church is over at 3...that is a big gap in time...but I dont want my wedding to be over at 11:30 (I could move the ch up an hour)
SHould I just stop being cheap and add the extra hour onto the party, or keep the times that I have and make people wait, orrrr do you think I should move the time to 6:30-11:30?

Re: Length of time
you will see that MANY brides on here have a big gap between ceremony and reception. Problem is that many times it cant be avoided. If its on a saturday and in a catholic church then you have to be done by a certain time bc there is mass on saturdays, usually 3-3:30 is the latest you can do it. Then with RH's ive had someone make a comment to me, let me say its not somebody invited to my wedding nor is from NYC, and said well then why couldn't i make my RH earlier and start it at 5 or 6. 2 reasons, one being that we are taking pics after and 2 which is pretty big is that many ny rh's do daytime and evening weddings so if there is a wedding before you then you cant do it at that time and do have to wait until 7-7:30.
Just about EVERY wedding i went to there was a big gap, its the way things are and most ppl know this and are used to it. Many wont go to the ceremony, but all your guests dont go to the ceremony and some go to the ceremony but dressed more casually and then go home and change.
My RH has a lounge downstairs for anybody who shows up early and theres couches, there will be some appetizers for them and drinks.
my ceremony is 2:30 and CH starts at 7:30

lol they will do what they do at most other weddings unless its a wedding where ceremony is at the RH. I don't know when i received an invite it was never a problem for me. I expect it and see it as the norm bc i understand the whole scheduling the church time and not being able to do it past a certain time.
Well if your FMIL is so concerned she can have a little thing at her house. My FMIL said she might do this, whoever is at the ceremony and doesn't have anything to do and its too far for them to go back home, can go over her house for drinks and stuff

oh that would be perfect. Especially if you are going to block rooms at that hotel and some of your guests will stay there then you wont even have to do that, they can hang out at the bar there or somebody you know who is staying there can throw a little get together in their room

Re: Length of time
Mine is exactly the same, church is at 2:30, reception at 7. When I think about it I get a little stresssed, but mostly because I think most people are going to find a bar and be HAMMERED by the time they get to the RH. Hammered is not what gets me nervous (ok, a little) but I want people to drink at the CH and Reception since we are paying through the nose for it!!!

Re: Length of time
Its definitely not a problem, I had a gap just as big as yours. We let all our guests know that they could go to the hotel (the one we booked for our guests) in between and chit chat etc.
Everyone really liked that.
But dont worry about it too much-its normal to have a big gap

Re: Length of time
There is going to be a big gap between mine too. My church is at 2:30 and the ch starts at 6:30. My mom keeps pushing me to find out if I can at least move the church to 3:00 if not 3:30. However, I'm happy with the big gap of time. More time for me to get pictures done and this way I won't be pulled out of the ch and reception as much. I know that alot of guests often go back to their hotels or my mom plans on having people back to her house in between. Maybe someone would be willing to let people hang out at thier house before having to go to your reception? I'm sure that your guests no matter what will find something in the down time to do.

Re: Length of time
My church starts @ 3 and the ch at 7...frankly I don't care if people fly kites during the break...u need enough time to take pics. My sister had less time between the church and RH and while she was enjoying herself on the dance floor she had to keep getting pulled off the floor to take pictures...i'm taking pics in a park and asking family to follow me so we'll have enough time for all the formals, and then be able to relax for the rest of the night.

Re: Length of time
i dont think its a problem at all - i am kind of wishing we booked it with time in between - we are getting married at RH - so we are going to try and take pix prior to the ceremony - hopefully we can get those out of the way and enjoy CH - but its so normal nowadays to have a long break in between - i would just try and find out about a bar and grill type of place that people can go and relax together during 'intermission'
