He says you can't eat RED meat

- to counter that theory - chicken has red blood- even though the meat itself is white...

I go by whatever has blood.

Re: Lent

I'm actually Greek Orthodox so during lent - i dont have fish either - GO tradition is a lot stricter - i dont do it all 40 days strict though - By strict I mean no meat or fish or dairy products and no oil on wednesday and friday.

What i do is - I follow it strictly for the first and last week of lent and the weeks in between I just dont have meant or fish on wednesday or friday -

Re: Lent

I consider chicken to be meat also.

Georgia, I was under the impression that fish is 'better' than both meat and dairy. So the first to be cut is meat, then dairy, then fish, then oil, then seafood. But I know a lot of people who do it your way too. I'll look into it on the GO web site.

Re: Lent

Debbie - i am so conflicted about what is proper and what isnt - I heard that too - that fish is better than dairy - its just soo much harder to do dairy for 40 days - especially in light of my hectic life - i do want to do all 40 days when I get married (i wont have my mom yelling at me that i am going to faint if i dont have calcium!)

i've come to the conclusion - i am just doing it the best way I can - I think it is a very personal thing - and everyone does it the way that works for them - -

We didn't eat meat either. It was a tunafish for lunch & pizza for dinner day!!

Why is it that all I wanted yesterday was meat. And I bet you today that I 'can' have meat I'll want pasta!

I actually don't get why chicken is considered meat and fish isn't.

Re: Lent

Georgia, three of my friends are doing no dairy... I don't know how they do it! I try to do no dairy on Wednesdays and Fridays, and it's a challenge to do it even those two days... I can't imagine doing it for 40+ days.

I agree with you, it is a personal choice. I think once you start doing it, you learn creative ways of cooking that are tasty and nutritious. My friend's mom makes these chocolate-peanut butter desert squares and peanut butter clusters- both non-dairy... I would eat those any day over a candy bar.
