okay, so i know its not nice to be ungrateful for a gift....
but sometimes when some people are overly generous it really makes the cheap ppl stand out!
so what was the worst shower gift you got? was it on your registry?

As far as the candy dish goes, sometimes people purchase several of the same item that they like and believe it a cute gift when it's on sale and then save them for occasions. It may not be a regift... just a previously purchased gift.
I brought a really cute (IMHO) crystal Christmas candy dish for some friends we barely speak to when they invited us to their housewarming party around Christmas and they never even sent us a thank you. They RSVP'd no to our wedding and never sent even a card or anything. I heard the wife is pregnant now and I'm wondering if I should send a gift for the baby when it comes or just write them off as pretty thankless people who don't really want to be our friends. Blah.
The no TY is really the only story I have to fit your theme since we didn't expect gifts from most of our guests and I didn't have a gift-receiving shower.

I registered for sheets sets ( at least 2 of them) dhs grandma shows up with a set i didnt register for and i looked them up when i got home- they came from kohls and they were on sale for buy one get one free!!! can you tell how much his gma loves me. that was the last time i saw her. she gave me dirty looks the whole shower.

I havent had a shower. But after I got engaged FH's Aunt and Cousin sent us an engagement gift. It was a set of towels- His aunt gave us the bath towels- his cousin gave us the hand towels and the other cousin the wash cloths. I laughed about this for days.

I got a HUGE Lenox floor vase. A lot of people might think it's beautiful, but A) I think it looks tacky, and B) I don't keep flowers and plants in the house because I can't keep them alive!
It wasn't on my registry, nor did it come with a gift receipt

l i got a few lenox things that i didnt register for either...but i can deal with those
why not buy those cool bamboo branches? it might look good in the vase?

we got a huge waffle maker that wasn't on our registry. we registered for a simple one, but the person bought us a big one that looks like a machine. no gift receipt either. we used it last weekend and the waffles came out delicious, but it just takes up soooo much space.
and another woman gave me a set of 4 dessert dishes, 4 diff kinds of choc bars and recipes to use with them... and shower gels. none of those things were on my registry lol.
