If you were sitting atyour RD and your FMIL was sitting to the left of you, would you ask her to pass you the butter or would you just reach over her? If she said excuse me would you apologize?

Or if she asked for the salt...would you pass her JUST the salt...or pass the salt AND pepper because that is proper etiquette....even though you know she won't use the pepper

I'd just ask her to pass the butter... especially because my fils are huge on 'manners' so it's just not worth incurring their wrath... when fh and I first were dating, they actually told him they thought I was rude and didn't have good manners!

My manners are perfectly fine, btw, they're just extreme.
