let's keep this board going with. . .

So I had a funny idea--let's talk about some of the things that make OOT/out of state weddings different from LI/NYC weddings!!! (I know that some of our OOT guests were amazed that our wedding was 'plain' in comparison to some of the things I've seen on LI!!!)

When DH and I went to his cousin's wedding in North Carolina in November, we were amazed that they could only serve beer or wine--no mixed drinks whatsoever because of that state's blue laws. Also, the meal was buffet style and there were no table assignments--you find a place to sit and you eat there! The reception was in a country club golf house, so there were even people sitting on couches eating their dinner and wedding cake!!! There was also very little dancing--no DJ or dance floor, but the bride and groom did still have a 'first dance' provided by the bride's father and a couple of his friends playing. Very different!!!

What have some of you ladies experienced at out of state/out of area weddings?

I went to an oot wedding and it was PACKED with gifts! I thought that was soooo strange b/c I ALWAYS give envelopes and so have my parents, so I never knew differently.

My cousin is planning a wedding in Florida and open bar is not included in the price of any of the reception halls.. She is planning on doing open bar for just CH and then cash bar and one bottle of wine on each table for the rest of the party!

when my dad and his wife got married a couple of years ago in Michigan, it was a buffett dinner, the bar closed during dinner, the 'dj' was a guy with an IPOD and there was a gift table set up. Just different from what we're used to here. Also, everyone was wearing bright colors! My sisters and I were there in black because that's what you wear to a Saturday night wedding in NY! You shuold have seen the looks we were getting....

I also went to a wedding where the reception was under a tent right next to Lake Champlain, which was very, very nice. . .but for drinks, they had boxed wine and kegs. That's right: KEGS. I definitely LOLed a little bit.

I haven't been to any OOT weddings YET, but next year a friend of FH's is getting married, and I believe his FW is originally from PA and that's where the reception is. I'm assuming that we will be invited because they're invited to ours and she's even coming to my shower even though I never met her (awkward), so I'm really curious to see how it's done in PA.

As long as there's a chicken, a beef, and a veggie....I'm pretty content

Hmmm... where do I start... at this point I have gone to more weddings in other states then in my state. And there is only more to come. I go to tons in PA, I guess thats what going to college in PA gets you.

In PA I attended a wedding where family members were in jeans. The wedding was so low key it was unbelievable. We sat at long picnic style tables with paper table clothes. The wedding had as many kids as adults and all organized dances, though I think that might have been my crazy friends taste more then anything.

Another wedding in PA had a 5 piece string quartet all night. You can't dance to a string quartet, we were very drunk.

Most of the weddings I have attended in PA don't have an open bar for the whole night. Many have been wine and beer only. Thankfully the string quartet one wasn't one of those.

One MA wedding I went to was in a barn. Beautiful but very casual. Family style served turkey and veggies. Hand decorated with white lights. Beer and wine only.

The VT wedding was at an old Catskill style lounge. Very laxed on details. No programs, menus, etc. Beer and wine only. Simple dinner, no real cocktail hour, only a little bit of cheese and veggies while we waited for the bride and groom to take some photos and then enter the room.

All the PA, MA, VT weddings I go to, I get yelled at before hand, don't overdress, because even dressed down I am usually the most dressed up at any of those weddings.

Nobody, CT & RI included (excpet North Jersey) seem to go into the crazy details us LI brides do. Although everyone has had favors but two of the PA weddings.

was that in the south? Thats a Southern tradition. Its actually were the groomscake started from. Its supposed to go to single ladies at the wedding and they put it under their pillow find their man. Though usually they have wedding cake too.
