Lets stir up some controversy

Original post by kat124

First let me start out by saying that I hope people can respect each other's opinions in the following very touchy subject: (in the event that you feel the need to insult someone else, please refrain from posting, part of what make this site and world wonderful is people are not all the same, and neither are their opions).

Now that I've added the little disclaimer:

The Supreme Court decided today not to extend the death penalty to convicted child rapists. Personally I am pro-death penalty in certain instances. This is one of them.
I dont think it should be something given out like candy. However, it takes a different type of evil to rape an 8 year old child. In the case in front of the court a step father raped his step daughter (I think she was 11 at the time).
This decision had been brought to court in an effort to extent it to include those convicted of rapping children younger than 12.

I think it should have been extended.
Thoughts?

I don't believe in the death penalty. Period.

No matter how bad the crime. What are we really accomplishing with doing this? Its just another person dead. I think prison is much worse.... Spending a lifetime behind bars and never again knowing what a real life felt like to me is much worse. Injection is too easy, what did they learn in this lifetime??? NOTHING!
And who feels the pain after that person is injected?.... Their family... NOT them!

Who are we to torture or kill anyone? Why is it OK for us to do it? Is it not murder? And who will be judged for taking the life?

I think people who commit crimes will be judged in the end buy God or whoever.
I know I sound very holy roller on this....JMO

I don't believe in Death or Jail for those who purposely inflict the most atrocious types of pain onto people.
I believe in torture!!
Why isn't there a system for torture? Seriously?!? Terrorists, serial killers, child killers/rapists, sadomizers ..... why can't we put them through same pain that they've inflicted onto others?

this is what i dont understand if someone is sentenced to life in jail, then why not just give them the death dentence instead of wasting tax payers dollars on someone who did something so completely wrong, i think there are better ways to use tax dollars

I think someone who does something so horrific deserves worse than to get a injection that will simply make him go to sleep.

I totally agree with you on this. There is also just too much risk in putting an innocent person to death. It happens more than we'd like to admit!

I also find another thing weird. This came up in one of my classes in college. People who usually are against abortion rights, completely support the death penalty. It is true almost 99% of the time!!
