does the updated baptismal certificate act AS the letter of freedom to marry or do you need a letter of freedom to marry from your home parish in ADDITION to the updated baptismal certificate.

I've never heard of a 'letter of freedom'. Do you need to have that??

Re: letter of freedom to marry
My church requires a freedom to marry letter as well.. (I dont believe all churches ask for it) I had to have 2 witness, as did my fiance.. we had it notarized and brought it back to the priest. We were told that we also could have had all witnesses present and everyone could have signed it in front of the priest. Hope that helps!

Re: letter of freedom to marry
my 'wedding guidelines' book i got from my parish says i need a newly dated (within 6 months of wedding day) baptismal certificate. it says that the updates certificate will testify to my freedom to marry...then the section below it says
a letter of freedom to marry from your home parish should be presented to the consulting priest / deacon

Re: letter of freedom to marry
I was baptised at my church... so they have all my info, but my fiance needed to provide the updated baptismal and confirmation certificates and in addition we had to provide the freedom to marry as well.

I would call your parish. I needed to submit the following
- a baptism & confirmation certificate dated within the last 6 months - FH and I needed our 'Letters of Freedom' (2 witnesses each and notarized) - if I was out of parish, I'd need a 'Letter of Freedom to Marry' from my pastor saying it was ok to be married in the other parish.
Be on the safe side and call

Re: letter of freedom to marry
Because FH was not Catholic, we were required to have 4 letters of freedom - 2 written by my family, 2 written by his. They were very basic letters, simply stating their relationship to FH, how long they had known us as a couple, and verifing that FH had never been married before. HTH!

Re: letter of freedom to marry
We were given a pre-printed from for each of us to have signed and notarized. I still have to get this done - I better get on it!

Re: letter of freedom to marry
Didn't you just recently get baptized? If it's in the last 6 months, then you're fine.
