Letterpress or Themography or Regular ol Printing?

Letterpress or Themography or Regular ol Printing?

Any thoughts. Letterpress is so expensive!! I love it but I don't know if it's worth it considering most ppl will just throw out the invitations!!!

Re: Letterpress of Themography

I really wanted letterpress and did a lot of research but couldn't justify the expense. They're gorgeous, but you're right, some people will just throw them out anyway.
I realized that what I really loved about letterpress was the soft, cloth-like paper. I ended up getting invites from www.whiteaisle.com. They use thick, soft paper, but flat print. They do offer letterpress too, but at double the price.

HTH!

Ok here is what I did I fell in love with invitations from Mygatsby.com......so I bought the pocket folios from them....bought the paper @ Paper Presentation.com (store in the city) and printed at the a PIP printing....let me tell you I got sooo many compliments on it!!! And I saved like $400

What's PIP printing? Is that a printer? Do you have to design your own invitations though? Do you have a picture? I want a floral image on it, so not sure how complicating that would be.

I just printed my invites myself on an inkjet printer...people loved them! (pics in DIY album)...as a Graphic Designer i love the look of letterpress but in the grand scheme I chose to spend my $ on other stuff!

I love Letterpress also and I searched high and low. Went to indie printers etc and it still cost me over 1k plus I had to higher a designer for the invites. If you LOVE it, go for it, but honestly, it's so pricy but they are LOVELY.

check out www.whiteaisle.com they have beautiful floral invites

White Aisle is great..but note they are shutting down business for a month from October -November, so gotta put in orders before then. I think they ship it when they get back.

FH and I are both artists and we tried to cash in EVERY favor to get letterpress work done (shy of us making the plates and print them ourselves) and it was still around $500 for just the printing.

If you adore paper and printing, do it. If not, I dont even see the point in doing thermography as the results are nice but you can put that money towards better paper, accents, pocketfolds etc.

We DIYed our invites and used a laser printer (no smudging or running or anything) and everyone asked where we bought ours... mission accomplished.

love love love letterpress.
way way way expensive.

i'm also a graphic artist.

i'm not a fan of thermography. i've seen some beautiful thermography work, but for some reason it usually reminds me of sweet 16 invitations and cheesy business cards.

i'm doing all my stuff on a color laser printer.

so far i've only done my stds, but i plan on matching my invites, place cards, menus etc, to the STDs.

so far, i've been very pleased with the results.

oh and also, my SIL is a graphic designer, too, and she did hers on a high quality inkjet. they looked great.

the only thing that bugged me is i had it on my fridge and something splashed on it and the ink ran.

yea i am a graphic designer and i just ran them on press (free) or I would of done them on inkjet because they are just tossed and really no sense to spend that much money on something that will be thrown away.

I LOVE letterpress! My SIL is a graphic designer and designed the invites. We worked with Dependable Letterpress. They were wonderful and not very expensive! It ended up being $384 + tax + shipping for 100 invites and 100 response cards on Magnani Arturo Soft White paper with black print. We had offset printing for the return address on the envelopes (compliments of SIL). HTH!
