LI Sound or Tommy Tunes?

I have a choice between these two dj's..I was wondering if anyone has any reviews or opinions between these two. Thanks!!!!

I didn't meet with Tommy Tunes but I booked with LI Sound and we were very happy with them.

I have only seen both at showcases, but in my opinion (and I'm a little biased to begin with because I'm looking for a band), go with LI Sound. Tommy Tunes seemed to use cheap marketing ploys to get the crowd excited, not any actual skill. For example, he kept playing different songs and asking girls to come up and dance to win prizes. But not just dance, like raunchy dance. It just seemed a little cheap. I would do a lot for a little extra wiggle room in my budget, but I wouldn't grind on some DJ just to try to win a lighting package while my grandmother was sitting in the third row.

Again, it's my opinion, maybe meeting with him in a professional (office) setting would feel different, and I'm sure he doesn't treat weddings like that, it was just not something that I felt was appropriate.

LI Sound, on the other hand, did a dance contest to win a prize (my mom actually won it), that was fun and also appropriate. They were great and pumped up the crowd. It also felt more professional.

I have to say that I booked with Tommy Tunes because literally everyone I know who has gotten married in the past few years (at least 10 people - we are at that age lol) all have used them and gave really excellent reviews. I have NEVER seen them use cheap marketing ploys or even use 'dirty dancing' or encourage it what so ever. I'm not sure who the MC was who did that at the showcase, i find it really weird that it even happened because they are known for being the DJ company that doesn't give a 'club' feel. I can honestly say I have never gotten a club feel from a wedding they did. I booked Tommy Tunes with Dan as my MC. other popular MC's are Frank and Joe.

When we were searching for a DJ a bunch of people I and FSIL knew recommended Tommy's Tunes. They were next on my list to check out but we booked with LI Sound when we met with them. I honestly never heard anything bad about them. I would check them both out!

I booked with Tommy Tunes. He was great to work with and I am in a tough situation because my venue isn't finished yet so I do not know what lights I will need or which board will work well in the room and stuff like that. Tommy suggested going with the basic package of DJ and MC and when my venue is finished we would decide what I would like to add then. I just clicked with Tommy, and he showed me videos of the MC's and I selected Joe. HTH

I used to work at East Wind and I will tell you they are both great but for some reason the maitre d's preferred Tommy's Tunes...I think they are quicker with setting up/cleaning up...easier to communicate with during the reception...if you have any questions message me!

We booked LI Sound and knew we'd book before we met with them so we never planned to meet with any other companies. They've done almost all the weddings we've gone to and have never disappointed.
My friend recently met with Tommy Tunes and really liked them but another friend felt they were pushy. I think it honestly depends also on how you click with them, but I don't think you can go wrong with either. We just want a major PARTY and LI Sound can do that for us.

I apologize to anyone I may have offended for my comments. I was just relaying what I saw, and nothing more. I know he has been in business for a long time, and I'm sure he wouldn't be if everyone thought the same thing as me. Maybe this was a misunderstanding on my part, I just wanted to apologize because when writing this, I didn't stop and consider how my words may have affected other brides. I am not offended! I am a little curious who the MC was who you saw at that showcase though. But I did kind of go into defense mode after that one! no worries

I totally agree! Tommy was great and so was Steven (one of the DJs who we ended choosing). We saw them all at a showcase and the energy of the MCs was insane!!! Love them!

I am trying to decide between the two right now too! Met with LI Sound last week and really like them. Hopefully meeting with Tommys Tunes this week and then will decide.

I would recommend LI Sound in a hearbeat to anyone. My wedding was in December and they were SOO amazing the entire time. I met them before everyone got there and they were so kind and I had a few last minute things to tell them and they were able to keep track of it all and accomodated every last thing I ask for and I only had to tell them once. Loved them so much!

Plus, my guests also loved them. I got the percussionist they offer and he was great. If you have extra money in the budget, spring for the singer (Gene Santini)- he sang sinatra-like songs when people were sitting down eating and he also sang some slow dances. People LOVED him!

Just wanted to add, I saw LI Sound last night at the Riviera Showcase and Let me tell you I am so glad we booked them! We chose Leo to be our MC. Can't wait for the wedding!

I found Tommy of Tommy tunes to be very dull. He didn't seem excited at all to sit down with us and sell his business to us. My friend and her fiance went with LI Sound. We went with In The Mood DJ. They seemed much more personable and excited to work with us.

We met with both. After we saw LI Sound at a showcase, we loved their presence and set up. But when we went to meet with them we found them to be over our budget.

Then we went to meet with Tommys Tunes. We have been to many weddings when they were the DJ and the place was ROCKIN! They offered us a better package for what we wanted to we ended up using them. They have a great reputation.

I dont think you could go wrong with either one.

ETA- I feel like a lot of brides narrow down to these two!
