LIers grieve on 10th anniversary of Colin Ferguson's murderous attack on LIRR

(12/7/03) GARDEN CITY - On December 7, 1993, Colin Ferguson randomly sprayed a crowded Long Island Railroad car with shots from a 9mm semi-automatic. Now, a decade has past since that murderous spree erupted aboard the LIRR's 5:33 p.m. train to Merillon Avenue.
A service planned at the Merillon Avenue Station was canceled because of poor road conditions after the weekend blizzard. Many friends and family of the victims tell News 12 Long Island they will not be back next year. They say now that 10 years have passed, it is time to grieve in private.

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy's (D-Mineola) husband Denis was one of the six people Ferguson killed. Her son Kevin one of the 19 wounded. She has spent the last 10 years advocating gun control.

Ferguson, who represented himself at trial, claimed he was wrongfully prosecuted because he is black. He is serving six consecutive life terms in Attica State Prison for the massacre.

I cannot believe that this was 10 years ago. I hope he never ever gets out!!! Even if he is 90 years old he should stay there!

I remember this day as if it was yesterday! I got home and there were about 15 messages from different people asking if I was ok! I didnt know what they were talking about then I turned on the TV and was shocked!!

I too hope he rots in jail!!

That was a horrible day and one that I'll never forget. We were on the next train behind the one that was attacked. We were sitting there for hours not really knowing what was going on because that was really before everyone single person was carrying cell phones but when they finally pulled us past the train we could see all the blood on the windows. It was the scarest thing I've seen in my life...well until 9/11.

God bless those families affected.
