I'm starting to look into getting a DJ, and they have so many different packages I'm having trouble deciding what to get. So if you have any opinions about this I'd really appreciate your help..
First thing, is it worth it to get the light show? What are the positives/ negatives of having it?
Also, should I get just a DJ or have 2 guys (DJ and MC)? Does it make a difference?
TIA!!!

Re: Light show: yes or no
IMO, I would say NO on the light show... it's a wedding, not a night at the amusement park. Just my opinion... i like the simple, elegant weddings.
I think one DJ would be fine. Any good DJ worth his salt should be a good MC as well.

I am doing the light show! But I want it more towards the end of the reception. It may not be that good for older people eyes.. but I am thinking a lot of the older people will leave early since my wedding ends at 1am. The light show is amazing though! I love it!! we are having an MC and he has an assistant also.

it definitely depends on your personality! i am kind of shy - and FH doesnt dance. . .SO i just got the basic package. . . no light show or anything -
i picture my wedding as an elegant low key affair - thats how i have always pictured it so i didnt think the light show was necessary - plus it is SO MUCH EXTRA!
i would still get a DJ/MC team though - what if one of them has to go to the bathroom! lol
but its good bc one guy will make the announcements while the other is in control of the music
plus the MC will interact with your guests and get them to dance ( unless u tell him not to like i did)
ETA: the basic package at my DJ included the DJ and the MC - so i didnt have to make a choice

Re: Light show: yes or no
I had a DJ and an MC and I would recommend that- I asked my MC to be very low-key but it did help to have him there so the DJ could concentrate on playing the music and I was able to ask the MC for requests etc.
As far as the light show, we didn't get one and the booth still looked good. Personally I think they are a little more 'sweet 16' than wedding but I think it also depends on your crowd. Mine didn't need a fancy light show to get them on the dance floor- it was packed from beginning to end.

We had a light show with music that lasted like 2 minutes or so before we were introduced. I was against this at first but DH wanted it so I gave in--I didn't even remember we had it until I watched the video--it was pretty cool and I think it definitely set the tone for the evening--everyone was so excited and pumped up after that--especially for the entrances. You should do what you like -its your day!!

I am not having the light show or the MC. We will have the DJ with his assistant. My DJ actually talked me out of getting the MC because my family dances anyway, so he said we would not need it then.

Re: Light show: yes or no
I'm getting a step up from the regular light show, but not the nutty, club like one with the laser looking stuff. I don't want my wedding looking like a club.
The only think I WOULD like is a GOBO with our names/monogram on it and lit around the room, but our DJ doesn't offer it (yet)... I'm hoping he does by the time our wedding comes around.
Ask to see DVD's of the different light show packages your DJ offers... my guy had a whole DVD of just the light packages he offers.
As for the DJ vs. DJ/MC... I'm getting both. I want someone with a nice look and a nice voice for the introductions and who will motivate the crowd, all while the music remains seamless.
I'm using Then 'til Now... and really classy and professional DJ company with VERY reasonable rates. They're even DJ'ing my extended cocktail hour for me at no extra charge! I found that to me so admirable that they weren't trying to get more money out of me for that half hour.
FM me if you're interested.

Re: Light show: yes or no
I wouldn't do the light show - not at a wedding...The DJ will still get your crowd moving and most DJ's have a base lighting package which is sufficient. I'd stick with that and not spend any extra $$ on it....
As for a DJ/MC - I struggled with whether or not to get both or just a combo DJ/MC - they say it depends on the size of your party...I had 110 people and went with both. It worked out well, but see what your DJ recommends. Good luck....

We had a light show before we were introduced but thats as far as the light show went, I'm not much of a big fan either.
