If I were to book a limo, do I get it for the whole day? Ie. for the trip to the hall, have them wait 6 hours later to bring me home? How does this usually work?

No you don't book them for the whole day. The way it works is that you and the BMs get picked up in one limo and the groom and GM get picked up in another (or it's all done in one limo depending on how many ppl you have).
You're all dropped off at the ceremony location and then from there to a location where you're taking pictures and then to the RH.
At that point the limo leaves (so be sure to take everything out of it!) Then at the end of the wedding you either have a town car or limo come and pick you up or you and your newly DH hop in a car with someone and go home or to the hotel you're staying in.
Typically, limo companies will offer for a small fee a car for the ride home or to the hotel for you and DH or they will send a towncar to drive you and DH to the airport when you leave for your HM.
This gets worked out when you meet with the limo company.
