Re: LIRR
I'd say about $6 ($12/round trip) but I haven't taken the train from out there since the rates were hiked.

Re: LIRR
I really love the fact that I do not have to sit in traffic...I can get on the train and read or sleep and someone else is doing the driving!!

Re: LIRR
Lisa, I'm with you and the traffic. I enjoy the mostly quiet personal time to read, sleep or just stare out the window:)
One of my co-workers takes the express bus from queens. It can take her well over an hour to get here and sometimes longer to get home. Meanwhile she can take the LIRR and have a 45 minute door to door commute.

Re: LIRR
I used to take the LIRR all the time for school. I would take it to Nassau Blvd (Hempstead line) and LOVED it. it was so peaceful. I would take it everyday from either Penn Station to School or from School to Penn station (I worked in the city and went to school in long island so that was a daily commute for me)
I always got a seat BUT if I had to go to school at night and had to take the train anytime after 5 holy moly was that train crowded and some people had to stand. I always had my monthly pass ready and got to the Penn station very early because I was not standing.
I did however get a lot of papers and homework done on the LIRR
