I have a California question for you- we are going there for our HM- where is the best place in SF to stay?

hmm, what do you like to do? Most popular places to stay are by Union Square (shopping) or by Fisherman's Wharf (touristy).
There's also a great place in Sausalito, called Casa Madrona - but you probably want to be in SF itself. How long will you be here?

We will on be in SF for maybe 3 days. We are starting in LA and driving up- I have no clue where to begin planning this thing.
I know in SF I want to go to Alcatraz, and the place where the seals are....

The wharf is a great base - and home to both of the things you mentioned.
