Lisat - about naming tables after dances
My FH and I are ballroom dancers. We are thinking of doing the same thing. I'm thinking of having a sketch of a ballroom dancing couple on the placecards. Each card would have the name of the person / couple on the outside, and whn it is opened it would say a dance eg Tango, Swing. Each table would have a large picture frame, and I am trying to decide whether to just write the name of the dance, or include a number and / or a picture. Could you share what u did? Thanks

Re: Lisat - about naming tables after dances
We didn't have placecards - just a seating list. As guests entered the ballroom, they were told what their table was.At Lands End, they put table numbers in pretty mahogny 5x7 frames. I made cards with the dances on them and had Lands End replace the table numbers with these cards.
Its all looked really elegant. I had a great font (that we used for our invitations as well).
We used only the dance name - no number or picture. I experimented with pictures but in end I could only find ones that were 'cute' rather than elegant.

Re: Lisat - about naming tables after dances
In one of the back issues of Martha Stewart, she used dance cards for something (the ones with the little feet imprints of each dance). That would be a really cute idea for placecards! And if you are ballroom dancers - maybe you could mark each table with some photographs of the two of you doing each dance. You would have to mark it to indicate what type it was but I think that is nice way to tie in WHY you have named them that way.

Re: Lisat - about naming tables after dances
Stef - we tried to do exactly that (the feet dance cards). But we had so many dances, we couldn't find them all...Also in Martha Stewart (same month I think), there was actually a dance card book that we thought would be a cute favor ($4-5 each) but we ended up using something else.

Re: Lisat - about naming tables after dances
thanks - I agree with Lisat, we will have too many different dances, I would love to find a sketch of a dancing couple. I can picture it in my mind, but I'm no artist, so I'll keep looking. My MOH is a good artist, she'll probably help. In fact I am thinking of using the same sketch for the place card and the table frame.I'm just wondering if I should number the tables too
ie
the table number on top
the sketch in the middle
the name of the dance on the bottom
and also inside the placecard - have hte number and the name of the dance.
Or is that redundant?

Re: Lisat - about naming tables after dances
I don't think you need both - the number doesn't add any value.AS for the MS issue - I believe it was sometime last summer. I finally got rid of all my bridal magazines, so I won't be much help there
