Little or no appetite

Little or no appetite

I am currently 13 weeks and I am rarely hungry. During the day, I am okay and can eat fairly normal. However, at night, I usually have no appetite whatsoever.

I have not been sick at all and overall feel pretty good. But, between visits 1 & 2, I lost 2.5 pounds and I think I may have lost another 1-2 pounds since then (Dr.'s appointment on Friday and I'll probably get in trouble!)

Did this happen to anyone else?

I did lose 7.5 pounds my first trimester, but that was because of Morning sickness. I did get yelled at... there's nothing I could have done. I am certainly making up for it now in the 3rd trimester. I am 31 weeks and have gained 21 pounds to date. Talk to your dr. about it. I hope it passes soon...

Re: Little or no appetite

In my first trimester I lost about 5 or 6 lbs and then gained 2 lbs on my last visit (16 1/2 weeks). I only noticed my appetite ramping up a bit the past week and even so it's not what it was before I was preggo. I am 19 weeks now. Before that it was a struggle to eat sometimes and that was after the M/S passed. I just didn't feel hungry. I would have 2 meals and nothing in between. My doctor wasn't concerned though, I guess I have some leftover baby weight from Luke (yeah, that it...) so they arent as concerned b/c my body doesnt need as much of the fat that you put on to insulate the baby. If you are on the thinner side, depending on your doctor, they may want to you to have food supplements like Ensure so you are getting extra calories.

Are you feeling weak?

No, I'm not feeling weak. I guess it could be that I had put on a few extra pounds (about 10) before I got pregnant and, since I am now eating less, maybe those extra pounds are coming off.

I know what you mean. I am at 16 weeks and I still have M/S with little appetite. At my last visit I lost another 4 lbs (total 7 lbs lost). My Dr. was not concerned with the weight lost in the first trimester - he just does not want to see weight loss in the second trimester. My Dr. recommended that I need to eat more small meals throughout the day.

If I do not have a positive gain at my next visit in 2 weeks, my Dr. mentioned he wanted me to go to a nutritionist. That may be a good thing - I could use advice on what to eat when I don't want to eat.

Re: Little or no appetite

Mary I was actually going to post this the other day. I am 14 weeks and pre-pregnancy I had a huge appetite. Now, especially at night, I never want food and find myself forcing myself to eat dinner for the sake of the baby's nutrition. I also get full a lot faster than I used to. I have not gained any weight in the first trimester and actually lost a pound.

It makes me feel better to know someone is going through the same thing. What I do now is try to eat more fruits during the day (an orange here, an apple there). This way I am feeding the baby some nutrients and don't feel too bad if I can't finish dinner.

ETA: I had no morning sickness so I know my weight loss is due to lack of appetite.
My doctor is also concerned and told me to eat a little more.
