Hmmm, this was an interesting article. Never really thought that there were married couples out there who live apart but are happily married. Would any of you girls ever entertain this idea?
ETA: that's actually kind of what my sister does. She's been with her boyfriend for almost 20 years now (since she was 17) and they own two separate homes together. Everything is 'theirs,' not just his or hers, but they live apart. He was supposed to move into 'her' house a while ago, but she says if she doesn't pack him up and move him herself he won't go (because he's lazy). So she's taking her time

Abdolutely not. That's part of the reason to get married is to make and share a home together.

Re: Living Apart Together?
i personally find it weird but for some people it works.
FHs parents lived together for i think 5 years before they decided to live apart. FMILs apartment is a big mess. she has clutter & things all over the place. after being married & having FH, his father decided he couldn't stand FMILs clutter lifestyle. so he moved to a first floor apartment in the same building & lived the rest of his life with his mother-in-law. then on the weekends he had an apartment in Selden. FHs parents celebrated every holiday, birthday & wedding anniversary. they just couldn't live with each other. this is the reason why it was so important to FH that we lived together before marriage.

Re: Living Apart Together?
Interesting! I know couples that have this arrangement because of work but they live in MA and one in in NYC for work not across the Hudson River or on the Upper West side. I know FH would never go for it but I would love a place closer to work and a place to go home to on the weekends. I think I want that but if it actually happened not so sure I would enjoy it without him.

It's interesting and I say whatever floats your boat, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea

Re: Living Apart Together?
FH and I joke about it all the time, because once I brought it up to him about how Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter live in two separate houses with an underground tunnel connecting them. I am fascinated by that.
But I can't see it working for us. Although it would allow me to go nuts with my Hello Kitty memorabilia. Hmm. Something to think about.

oh the Hello Kitty
I would never be able to do that. we moved in after 2 months of dating and those 2 months were a torture to us. I am trying not to judge the LAT thing (to each his own) but at the same time I cant understand then the point of being married then

Re: Living Apart Together?
if you were married and it had to do with financial issues i guess i could understand. I dont live with FH currently and we've been together for 7 years but we've been trying to save up $ .... once we are married we will def live together though.

Yeah, I can never imagine not living with FH, but I guess that's the only way it works for some. To each their own.

Re: Living Apart Together?
i know ppl that have to do that for work. like the couple lives in PA but the wife got an amazing job in NYC. so she lives in NYC monday - thursday, and goes back to PA Fri-Sun.
i think its harder to start a marriage like that. but if you are married like 10 years, had your babies, they are in school, and an amazing job offer comes your way...it would be something i would tihnk we would consider
not sure if we would do it...but definately something to consider

That's so weird... I never even knew this existed and I definitely couldn't and wouldn't do this. I'd miss FH way too much!
