I still live at home with my mom. Does anyone else feel sad about leaving home? I went away to college and I've been away from home plenty, but whenever I think about this really being the last period of time that I'm living home, I get sad. (Then there are other times that I CANNOT wait to leave ) Does anyone else feel this way?

Re: living at home
I totally agree!!! I went away to college and came back to get my masters at Stonybrook. I've been home since 2002. I think of how exciting it is going to be to live with FH and start our own lives together....but I agree, I get sad when I think about leaving my mom and dad. I think about how sad it'll be that I don't get to yell 'I'm leaving' out to my dad every morning when I head out to work I'll only be 15 minutes away, but I am not one who accepts change very well.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel sad that I won't see my family every day anymore. But glad there's always the phone.

Re: living at home
I feel sad, but I feel more stressed about our financial situation being different when now I'm paying rent on top of all the bills I have. I think I'll miss my mom's cooking the most because that gene must have lapsed with me!

Re: living at home
i never went away to college ( i was a cw post commuter) so this was my first time really leaving the nest. before the wedding a part of me couldnt wait to leave home and wake up next to DH every morning but another part of me was putting off packing up all my stuff cause i didnt want to leave! now that we've been married for 46 days , the transition has been easy. we only moved about 10 minutes from my parents and about 3 minutes from DH's so we can stop by whenever we want to say hi (or want a REAL home cooked meal!)

Re: living at home
i feel that way. I can't wait to get out, yet the next time i do i know its a pretty permanent thing...we were talking about moving to nassau (i'm pretty east in suffolk) if future FH got a job out there or towards the city....and i started crying. I think its just a natural change we all go through, and sometimes change is hard no matter how ready for it we may be. I also second freaking out about the new financial deal that comes along with it.

Re: living at home
i am excited about moving in with FH after the wedding - i have never lived away from home
however, i was so sad about leaving . . . you know what cured me?
FH and I have agreed to take up my parents offer out of desperation and live in an apartment upstairs rent free until we can get a down payment on a house
now i REALLY can't wait to get out

I have never been away from home...most of the times I'm like God can't wait to be on my own but I'm such a mush....I was watching Father of the Bride teh other Day and she was saying it was her last day as a kid and all and i was like hysterical!

Re: living at home
I know exactly how all of you feel. I never went away to college and this will be my first time out of the nest. I'm going to miss my daily routines around the house, like sitting in the living room with my mom watching the news early in the morning before work. Watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and the Mets game on tv with Dad and hearing him curse out the tv or if he does something disgusting and I laugh at him.
FH and I haven't started looking for our apartment yet, but hopefully it will be close to both of our families.
I don't do well with change neither.

Re: living at home
I lived at home until a month before my wedding (DH and I bought a house).
I miss living at home sometimes, even though I'm only 5 minutes away now. My parents were great and I also miss my dog, who now lives with my parents. I have visiting rights though! :
I'm the youngest, I have a brother who lives in Maryland, so I think it was especially hard on my parents to see me leave the nest.

Re: living at home
I definately feel that way. I have never lived out of the house. i am very close to my mom and family. It will be a huge adjustment for all involved. I look at that i am beginning an exciting new chapter and I can always talk to them on the phone and come visit. I will definately miss the companionship as well as all of the amenities.

Re: living at home
I lived with my parents until the day I got married. When we came home from the honeymoon, we spent the weekend at my parents house, and it was so hard leaving for the first time, I cried like a baby. I am ok now though.
