Living w/ FI's

Living w/ FI's

I have moved in with my FH, but the problem is he still lives with his parents. So now I'm living with my FI's and I don't like it. We are moving out after our wedding, b/c we can not afford a condo right now, we are saving. It's so annoying we were not allowed to have a tv in the bedroom we are staying in, its has to be in the upstairs living room where the couch is stiff and old. The shower is old and grimey, evertime I leave a room I have to shut the tv off or the light off even if I leave the room for 10 min. I really don't know how much longer I can take this. Everyday Im asked 20 questions about thing that were asked the day before it's so annoying. I can't even tell my FH without him flying off the handle and saying, 'don't complain' I know it may sound selfish, but this is awful. I used to my own house in CT. where I used to live.

I really have no advice and don't want to add fuel to the fire since you really don't have a choice and are trying to save. But that situation - I could never do it!

We lived with my mother for almost 5 months after the wedding, and poor DH was almost out of his mind. He isn't used to having no privacy, and there really was NONE. It's VERY hard- you can never just do what you want, when you want. We did it to save money, and we did manage to save some, BUT- we decided that having our own space and paying rent, would be better than having no privacy and fighting all the time. We still manage to save money, just not as much as we used to.

Good luck with everything!!!

I agree. I would rather a basement apt. which you can rent from 800-$900 a month than go through that stress. Sure, you wouldn't save quite so much, but it sounds like it might be worth it to save your sanity!

ETA: If your wedding isn't for another almost 2 years I would definitely try to get out of there. Things will only get worse if you are fed up now! Did you sell your house in CT? Can you use that money as a downpayment for a co-op or condo?

I really can not really help but I was told let it slide that is the best thing. At night when the two of you go to bed or just talk about your day and just bring it up. I know that is hum drum advice but thats wheat my therapist suggested (just kidding) Seriously it might work better that way Here is/was my problem along the same lines.

When we got married we lived for 5 years in my parents basement apartment. MY DH had it from my parents. We moved into his grandmothers house and I got it from my MIL and SIL they are over every single day. Morning and night. Now his grandmother passed away almost a year ago and they are still over. We did go to a therapist and said we have to try to understand each others parents and be frank with them. (How to be Frank I dont know Im not a man
) Again, dont let it go cause it might get worse betweent the two of you. MY SIL is in my older sons life more then me and I feel more like the aunt then the mother to him sad as it is. everything I do is where are you going what are you doing so trust me I think I have a good understanding of what you mean

You can't expect them to change since it's their house but I can 100% understand how difficult it must be to live with them. I'd personally rather live in a shoebox than live with FH's parents, or my own for that matter. IMO this is not going to get better, especially since you have 2 years until your wedding. Either both of you should live in your own homes or get a different apartment.
