LIW- Suggestion

Original post by lilmrs

On another board I post on, there is this little dot/button you can push and it helps you ignore a member completely. You don't see any of their posts and their unable to FM you...I know we can block FM's, but can we make a 'total ignore' button so we can sever ties completely?

I really like the phrase 'kill tag'

No thats the problem. The member is still VERY there.

If you ignore all posts from a specific member... then that member posts and you have 100 people responding... all you get are the responses... you have no idea what all the 'commotion' is.

Like I said... its flawed. It would be good for stuff like FMs... to block people for harassment.

But to set an ignore on a member's posts... like Don said admit it or not... its those members that generate the most 'entertainment value' and are worth the read whether you agree or not.

i see what you are saying - it would just be better if the member got banned after getting so many kill tags, you know.

They already have a 'blocked' button for members whose FMs you'd like blocked

Yes people should get banned if they get out of control. But you will never see a system where you can be 'voted off the island' so to speak by users.

Ive been on both sides of it... ive caused trouble on sites ... and I have been a site admin having to control the 'troublemakers'.

It all comes down to... as much as somebody can cause trouble... its usually not worth the headache of a ban because banning is just too easy to get around. Plus the wanna-be banned users... even though mass people don't agree with them and want them banned... the site owners WANT people like that around to stir up the shyt and keep a particular site interesting. Thats what a lot of people don't realize it.

I admin another site and I have about four or five real 'a$$hole' users. But every time we talk about banning... we just don't do it. It generates entertainment for us in the end.

Plus... I could easily circumvent a LIW ban if I wanted to, as well as any other website out there. I have also gotten on other 'private' websites in the past. It really isn't that difficlt if you know what u are doing.

Its just not worth the trouble for a web admin. Trust me. Granted some webadmins have quick fuses. But in reality, you have to really do a LOT to earn getting banned from a website.

oh, i'm sure its takes much more then just a name calling or two. its seems like its more trouble then its worth.

and the banned members usually do come back and start problems for a day and then they are gone again.
