LIWeddings - About the Rules

LIWeddings - About the Rules

I just re-read them. And I don't see where it says we can't post something that reads 'stay away from' or 'don't use' a particular vendor. Can you please explain this to all of us.

I don't know about this board, but on the Knot, there is a specific disclaimer that warns that any posts blasting a particular vendor will be removed and that you should make all efforts to resolve the issue yourself privately. I suppose it could be considered slander.

If I remember correctly, the way I read it was that it was okay to tell about your own PERSONAL experience good or bad with a vendor - in other words you can tell your side of the story if you have used them. What you cannot do is say things like 'Warning, this vendors $ucks$' without provocation or without reason. You can't hammer out a personal vendetta against a vendor on these boards.

While I totally empathize with the fact that Liz and Ron are grateful for their vendors and have nice working relationships with them (and that they rely on the vendors to help keep this board going), I find posts like Cindy's to be totally invaluable. I started out using this board as a resource and have ended up making a ton of new friends that I am grateful for. But I want to make certain that we are still allowed to let other brides know if we have been treated shabbily, poorly, rudely (and crudely), especially if it saves another bride a lot of heartache and MONEY.

I think that is a very reasonable rule that will allow this board to stay around. Basically, write your post to say 'Vendor X did not fulfill the obligations of their contract with me,' but do not add anything about what other brides should or should not do. Let the other brides come to their own conclusions.

Re: LIWeddings - About the Rules

I didn't say it was unreasonable. I don't even have any kind of warning to give. But I noticed that LIWeddings referred us to the rules in a post from yesterday. I read them and I don't see anything that prevents us from posting a warning like that, so I was really wondering what category that falls under according to their rules. To me, it doesn't seem like the rules prevent that, so I am curious.

Also, it is not slander to say 'stay away from x vendor.' It might be libel to post 'vendor x did this,' if in fact they did not. But posting 'vendor x did this,' if it is true, is not libel either.

Valenia - you got it!

If something happens that you want to state as a matter of fact, fine. But, when you start mixing emotions etc with the thread it gets out of hand. Cindy's initial post was a matter of fact post. But, what happened yesterday (with a few not all) was IMHO an example of brides at their worst. I was extremely disappointed in a few. We will be re-visiting the thread and removing certain posts. This is not supposed to be a rah rah thread where people who know nothing more that what is posted by one side to get on a bandwagon and start defaming someone. We will be updating the rules and explicitly standing by them.

All The Best!

Okay. I am glad that you are revising the rules so we have a better indication as to what is and is not acceptable.

Good luck trying to get a bunch of brides to leave emotion out of posts
