Liz and Farah...I learned to rib!!

Liz and Farah...I learned to rib!!

Just wanted to share. I had a coworker show me and I realized that I wasn't bringing the yarn to the front to purl and to the back to knit, which is why it looked like knots. Now that I know to swing it to the front or the back for the appropriate stitches, I am a ribbing maniac and have 1/4 of a scarf done for my DH.

We bought so much yarn during the tax free week (yarn, fabric, needles, etc were also tax free, I guess because they are the materials to make clothes). After I finish DH's scarf I want to try the pattern Liz mentioned. Was that a seed stitch?

Excellent!

Yes, that was a seed stitch! It's really easy!

One of my coworkers just showed me the scarf she is making in seed stitch. You said your DH liked it. I think mine might like it as well. Maybe that will be his next scarf.

The girl who helped me at work is like girl wonder when it comes to knitting. She learned in September and already she has made sweaters with complex stitches. She showed me how to make a cable. Whoa! I have new appreciation for Irish women who make the sweaters!

Yeah, Mr Boots loves his scarf, the seed stitch is a big hit!

My mom does all that stuff... it's incredible!

Did your mom teach you?

The girl at work learned from a book and her work is like a machine or something. Then again, she is one of those perfect people you want to hate and then she does something nice like help you with knitting and then you realize she is okay.

She taught me the basics, casting on, knit, purl, binding off. And she wants to show me the complex stuff, but I'm lazy and sloppy, and she's anal and meticulous, so I think I'm going to stick to scarves!

Dh wants me to knit him a sweater! HAHAHA!! Yeah, maybe for our 5th anniversary or something.

I want to practice every stitch on a scarf before I try a sweater.

I want to do that too. I'm still not entirely comfortable with the needles. I need more practice, and I'm trying to teach myself how to knit with different colors... a sweater is waaaaaaaay in the future!

Oh, I had a knitting accident last night

actually, it was all Seb's fault. I'm using this yarn that kind of bunches up - it's all scrunchy and sometimes it all gathers in certains spots. All I have to do is move the bunch down a bit, but it makes an awful noise...I know this is all really unbelieveable - that yarn makes a noise! But anyway, every time I did it, Seb had to tell me how much he hated the noise and finally he decided he was going to take care of it himself. So he grabs the skein and starts to move the bunch down and of course (!) what does he do but rip the thread in two!!!!

I was really upset, because I didn't know how I was going to fix it. But in the end I tied it together in a very tiny knot and just knittend around it. So it was okay. He really felt so bad, I thought he might cry. He told me that he felt like he had just stepped on a six year old's sand castle at the beach

I told him not to worry about it, BUT when you add this little mishap to the spilled glass of water on the presentation.... I'm just not letting him ANYWHERE near any of my projects from now on!!!!! And he calls me clumsy????

I hope he doesn't expect you to make HIM a scarf anytime soon!

I'm glad you were able to fix it.

Silly boys and the things that 'bother' them.

Gee.... he's so... helpful! Just make sure he's not anywhere near the delivery room if you guys have kids!

Re: Liz and Farah...I learned to rib!!

I would laugh if you find Seb knitting one night. After all of the complaining about the 'yarn noise' I can just imagine him trying to figure it all out.

My DH learned to knit in school in Poland, and decided to buy a knitting kit a few years ago. After three stitches, he screamed for his mother to help him and she ended up finishing the scarf and one for me
