Liz and Juliet - knitting question

What size needles do you usually use?

Re: Liz and Julie - knitting question

depends on the yarn. If I use the thick and quick or chunky, I use 13's (9mm), a medium yarn, I use 10's and fine yarn I use 8's

Wow, I'm using like 4 1/2!!!

Ooops, sorry, I just realized I just wrote Julie in the subject instead of Juliet...

Are they really thin? That could be why you feel like you are knitting forever and going nowhere. My 8's made me feel that way.

Lion Brand yarn makes a yarn called Thick and Quick and when paired with 11's or 13's, you could knock off a scarf in a few hours.

Oh yeah, somehow I took a guess that you were looking for me. Although Julie knits, too, You were talking to Liz and me about this a few days ago

I'm not sure, I have to check, but I've got 3 different sizes... I've 8s I think with them it takes forever to finish anything.

I've got 11s too I think... oh I don't know...I'm totally just speculating! But I know that the thicker the yarn, the bigger the needle needs to be, and the finer the yarn, the smaller the needle.

Juliet... I made a scarf in like 3 days with the Thcik and Quick from Lion. I was completely astonished when I held it up on the 3rd day and saw 5 feet of scarf already dangling from the needle!

The other night, Seb told me it was going to be warm out by the time I finished my scarf

I thought it didn't get warm in England!

I was watching my friend knit yesterday & hers we TINY! she is taking a class & that is what they gave her. She said she is making a tiny sweater. and by tiny she menas teddy bear sized.
They were metal. I have big plastic ones, I don't know the size.

The tiny ones seemed easy to move, but i suppose that would take longer.

It took me forever to make Mr Boots' sweater, and when I finally finished it and gave it to him, it was actually the first day of Spring!

ETA: I meant SCARF, not sweater!

That stuff stands up to its name. I was wondering what the rib stitch would look like and within a few rows I could see it developing, whereas a thinner yarn wouldn't have shown progress that quickly.

And they make warm scarves too.

I use 11s with the Thick and Quick--very warm scarves and takes me a few nights, but just an hour or two at a time...Need to learn to crochet, I hear that is faster.

WOW!! You can make a real sweater??

I was always amazed by my girlfriend in HS who would be making all these *professional* looking sweaters for herself!!

OMG, did I write 'sweater'? I totally meant SCARF! I'm too much of a spaz to make a sweater, I leave that to my mom and my oldest sister!

Re: Liz and Juliet - knitting question

I work with a girl who is a knitting prodigy or something. She taught herself in September and has made scarves, hats, sweaters, vests, a purse!!

Some people just have a knack for those things.
