Re: Loans
No definitely not...Infact, i dont even want to use cc's...well i'll use cc's but for small things, things that cost like a few hundred or maybe 1-2 thousand, so this way we canjust pay off that cc right away...With a loan and credit cards except no interest cards, you'll end up paying twice what it costs with all that interest.

Re: Loans
i've paid for about half right now, but need the loan for the rest... i plan on using any gifts we get to pay for the loan and hopefully that will pay it off immediately.
We had a long engagement (will be 2 years 3 mos) but it isn't enough to save all the money needed for the wedding... I should have just eloped!

This is very good advice...we did this (mostly for our HM + a few other things here and there) and will have everything paid off by the time the interest starts...its a good way to put off/spread out paying w/out having to worry about increased cost

Re: Loans
Be realistic about how big the loan is going to be and how much you'll get from wedding gifts. If you've only been able to save for half the wedding in this amount of time, then it will take you longer than that to pay off the loan, since there is also interest to pay on a loan. Most couples do not recoup half the cost of the wedding in gifts!
I understand everyone's situation is different, but I wouldn't dream of taking out a loan to pay for a wedding OR putting the majority of it on CCs. You can never count on getting a certain amount in gifts, and you could end up spending the first few years of married life paying off the wedding instead of saving for something else (a house, retirement, kids if you want to have them, etc.)
I'd look into other options (like a smaller wedding) before resorting to a loan... but that's my personal opinion.
Taking out a loan or putting a huge amount of money on CCs is something to consider very, very carefully. Think long and hard about it...

I agree 100%...it will take twice as long to pay off the loan. Cutting costs as much as you can would be the best option. Try some DIY projects, and shop around for certain things to get a better price.

I double-ditto agree. You will hear and see it time and time again - it's a big mistake paying for a wedding by debt - cc's or a loan.
You will be SHOCKED at how much you will receive in gifts and it's impt to know that you shouldn't start off a marraige in debt. Especially for a 4 hour party! To pay using cc's for the 'smaller' things - under $1K...is fine b/c you can pay that off w/out using the 'gift money' - but the larger things?
The truth of the matter is that if you can't afford to have this wedding you shouldn't be having it - you have to cut down on vendors, items you're including etc.

Re: Loans
i understand what everyone is saying, but believe me this is my only option... i've already booked all of my vendors and have been paying it off slowly. I went into it knowing i'd need a loan since I am paying for the entire wedding by myself...
as for debt - FH and I both have student loans and credit card debt - our student loans total $350,000 so I'm not worried about a small loan for the wedding!!

I would absolutely NOT recommend charging wedding expenses (other than deposits and airlines tickets). $350,000 in debt from student loans is not the same as charing wedding debt. Creditors look at student loan debt differently than credit lines and revolving accounts.

This is true, I work at a bank and I would recommend really trying to find an alternative if you can't and must take the loan out try taking the smallest one possible.... this does affect your credit history and I don't know if you already own a home but that does come into play when applying for a mortgage. So I think its something to seriously think about.

Re: Loans
no wedding is worth taking a loan out for. there's always ways to cut corners no matter how close to the date you are

Re: Loans
we decided against taking any type of loans for the wedding...we are doing this w/o borrowing any money!
