FH and I really want to do our rehearsal dinner very casual. Becasue our wedding is a 'destination' one for many of our friends and family, the rehearsal dinner will include at least 60% of our guests. Our original idea for the wedding was a casual clambake on the beach, but our mothers had heart attacks, so a vineyard wedding was born.
We are thinking that the RD could be an awesome clambake, and I have already scouted out a few caterers in the Hamptons that do a kick-a@@ party.
My question: Why does it seem as if there are no public beaches in North Fork?
I do not want my guests to have to travel to (and battle through) the Hamptons for a RD.
Any ideas on locations out there that might work?
If my parents were to rent a beach house for the week on the water, could I throw a party on a private beach?
Any info at all on the scene out there would be so appreciated...I am still trying to figure where the heck everything is on long island from out here in Brooklyn.
Thanks ladies!

Would Sunken Meadow let you rent space on the beach for a party?

Sunken Meadow will do it. I am not sure for how small of a group. My FFIL's company rents it out for a picnin every year. Of course, that may be a whole lot bigger than what you are looking to have but I would look into it.

i love the idea too - but i don't have suggestion for a beach beside renting a house on the beach - just make sure that it is far from the high tide mark and has a high tide mark -
When you look for a caterer - the clam bakes that work the best are the ones that steam clams, corn and lobster in one bag - easy to serve to each person and stay hot longer

Re: Location question: Clam Bake on the beach...
thanks ladies...this is a start!
i worry about renting the house casue it would be my parents staying there, but it is his parents paying for the 'dinner'...i don't want to make anything financially awkward between them (they get along great...i want it to stay that way!)
I would also consider a restaurant with an outdoor deck/lawn/beachfront property who can do an awesome BBQ.
maybe talking to them -they can recomend a beachthat you can use- or have in with a beach association

Claudio's in Greenpoint is on the water, casual, does lobster/clam stuff so I am sure they could pull off a clambake. Very large place and not very expensive. I don't have contact info but I am sure they are listed. They would be perfect and close to the Hamptons without the Hampton crowds.
