I am so undecided as to where i should have my reception?
I want to do everything MYSELF.....so thats why i'm not having it at a HALL.
I know i'm giving myself more of a headache that way but i love a challenge.
I wanted it maybe on the BEACH,
My BACKYARD.... It's Huge and has a beautiful inground pool. but if it rains there's no room for 200 people inside.
Last resort would be in my Local Firehouse!!!!
I really want an outside wedding but im scared of MOTHER NATURE....i know i still have a year in a half but i just don't know what to do...
ANY ADVICE........
EDIT>>>>>
okay well lets say i plan on having it at my house.....and have the firhouse as a backup.....
then how should i world my invites.....i guess thats what im unsure about.....

Are you willing to pay for tents to cover a big majority of your backyard? I know it's expensive (not sure how much) but it is an option in case of rain.
Also be wary of the hidden costs of doing everything yourself. You'll need to rent all the chairs/tables/linens, lighting, plates, cups, silverware for 200 guests! plus the list goes on and on! it can be done of course, i'm sure someone on here can help you with details!

Re: location..locATION...LOCATION
i know you have your heart set on doing it at your home, but keep in mind if you do it in a tent you are looking at double the price for what it would be at a hall. the tents with floor can range anywhere from $10,000-$40,000!! and then you have to rent all the tables, chairs, linen, china, flatware, and glassware, get your own alcholo, food and staff- set up and design... it will be very hard unless you have an offpremise caterer that you are working with- but you are lookin at big bucks

Yea i know....
im willing to spend whatever it takes to make my vision a reality....
but the thing is i want to try to stay away from tents.....i want everything to be open....but thats a big risk i might have to gamble on.

you can always put the tent on reserve ( pay the deposit) and if the weather looks great the week of you dont need it, but remeber in the evenings it still gets cool so you might want to have something for your guests to make sure thye are comfortable

I really recommend renting out a winery on the north shore.... wineries aren't generally caterers, so the only thing you really get is the space. everything else is up to you. GL!

yes but most of them you HAVE to use their caterer.. or a reputable caterer that they know.. most will not let you come in with just you and your food...

Its going to be a tough decision as your right we can never be too sure of mother nature, Perhaps plan the beach or backyard and have the fire house available to you a few days before so you could check the weather? Ugh rough situation good luck

we initially thought of doing it at Palmer and they were open to any caterer who was insured. but it is true that you can't just bring your own eats-

yeah Palmer is beautiful! but sometimes I feel the caterer will jack it up just to be 'out east'... be careful with who you go with and FM if you need pricing for anything!

thanks! we decided against doing it at the winery too much to pay attention to/worry about. we're booking a traditional RH this weekend!

Re: location..locATION...LOCATION
i just thought of one other thing (not to be debbie downer!)...parking will be a issue most likely. you'll probably want to check with your town to make sure they're aware that possibly 100+ cars will be parked around the area. and you'll want to warn all your neighbors so they don't call the cops because of all the noise from the music and people!

Honestly, I think you should have it at a RH. Only because having it at oudoors and starting from scratch with tables, tents and such can cost more that an RH who provides you with everything. Go with what you love though. I am just giving you my two cents. I am sure whatever you do will be beautiful. Good Luck!
