FH and I are not the sun and sand type so I think we are going to go to London for our HM. Anyone been there? Suggestions? Advice?

TIA!

Re: London

I used to live in Ireland while studying abroad and took a holiday over to England to see London.

If you just plan on staying in London and not going anywhere else, I can give you a whole crap load to do (FM me)! If you want to visit other places as well, here are my top choices to do:
1. Take the double decker bus tour throughout the City - you won't believe the things you see and can learn!!!! One of the tour companies offers a free cruise down the Thames River with your ticket! Go to this one!!!!! The river tour is unbelievable!!!

2. See Tower of London - need at least 4-5 hours here to see everything!!!! Esp the crown jewels housed here!

3. Kensington Palace & Gardens - need a beautiful day to do this - need about 3 hours - a must see beautiful place

4. Westminster Abbey - get here EARLY to get a good place in line - it's remarkable from the inside and out!!!!

5. See the changing of the guard at the palace - about 9am is starts (I think).

6. Buckingham Palace - this is varied depending on whether there are heads of state visiting or the queen is in residence as to whether they will allow the public to enter the facility.

Hope this helps some!!!!!! FM me if you have any questions!

Re: London

i have been to london a lot. all of the above that is listed is a great suggestion.

if i may add to that:
the british museum
hyde park

i think the must sees were covered above. take a walking tour or a pub crawl. those are fun. for a day trip you can go up to oxford.

Re: London

DH and I did London and Brussels for our HM (was supposed to be London and Paris, but due to the riots we had to change our plans 3 days before the wedding!)

London was a blast as was Brussels.

FM me if you have any questions or want more details.

Re: London

i've been several times. i agree with the recommendations above. also, any little pub you can find - beer and fish & chips are a MUST. stop by harrod's department store (think macy's in manhattan).

depending on how long you're there, you might want to consider some day tours. you can do a combined tour of leeds castle and dover (white cliffs of dover). other options (not sure on how they package them): stonehenge, bath (to see the underground roman baths), stratford upon avon (shakespeare).

if you want a little bit of oddball fun, there is a jack the ripper tour in london that drives by the sites where the bodies were found and visits some of the most famous supposedly haunted places in the city. if you have an inkling of belief in that stuff, by the end of hte night you will be cuddling up to your honey like there was no tomorrow!

fm me if you want company info for the tours - i think i might still info in my scrapbooks

I would also suggest a traditional afternoon english tea. DH and I did this and it was so nice and very romantic. Our waitress knew we were honeymooners and took extra special care of us.

Every now and then on a Sunday, I try to recreate this for a special brunch, just to bring us back to our HM.
