Long distance planning - vent

Hey girls,

Just feeling a bit overwhelmed. I'm trying to plan out long island wedding long distance from Albany. Which isnt too far, but still. I have so many vendors I want to meet with and places I want to shop...some are in the city, some are on the island and they all have such tight schedules especially on the weekends which is the only time I can be around. Aahhh!

Right now the biggest hurdle is photographers. i have 4 on my list and I've talked to them via phone and email but I really feel like I should meet them in person before making a decision. Youd think it wouldnt be so hard to coordinate but that does not appear to be the case.

Anyone else in a similar position? Any ideas on minimizing stress and getting through it?

Good luck to everyone! Thanks for listening

im not a long distance bride but can understand your frustration...i work in the bronx and had issues meeting some of the vendors that are far out on LI....i drove 2 hours 2 nights after work to meet photographers!
I would say with the photographer it is important to meet them. I met with 2 and had an idea of which i liked but meeting him in person totally sealed the deal. it is someone you need to be with for an entire day so you want to be certain you click with them.
I know it is tough, but perhaps you can take off a Friday or Monday and spend a day making appts with the photographers, and then on the weekend see the florists then head back to albany? if you have the flexibility with your job it may be worth it in the end...

anything you need that I can help with please FM me...i can send you quotes from vendors i met with (DJ, florist, photog etc)
the key is trying not to stress...you still have a year to get everything done
good luck!

Aww, thanks! You girls are awesome and I knew you would help. I thought it was still pretty early too, it just sometimes feels like everyone else is so far ahead of me. I already know its going to be a ton of traveling, but hopefully in the next few weeks/months everything will fall into place.....

We're both Crest Hollow brides! Isn't it beautiful over there? What room did you pick?

oh that stinks and must be frustrating.

i have an out of town bridesmaid, so i understand the stress that distance can bring.

i dont have any advice to offer up - except to mention that your out of town to vendors and book as many appointments you can on the same day the earliest being the ones more west and make your way east or vise versa.\

best of luck!! :)

I am an out of town bride. I am planning a wedding in San Diego from AZ. Honestly the best money I spent on this wedding was a full time wedding coordinator. She took care of EVERYTHING. She coordinated all vendors for me to look at, ones that she knew were in my price range and that she had relationships with. She then used her connections to negotiate prices and deals as well as setting up all appointments for me to fall on one weekend. I would really suggest you look into one. It will save you a ton of stress.

We are planning our LI wedding from North Carolina, so I totally feel your pain. We haven't even found time to get back and find a RH! Its so hard to squeeze everything in to weekends when you are traveling back and forth. I would LOVE to be able to hire a full wedding planner, but I just cant swing it financially. Luckily my parents are helping a lot! Do you have family or friends on LI that can help you out? I think meeting with a photog is a good idea no matter what because you can really get a feel for who you click with best and will be the best fit for you on your day.

Feel free to FM me if you ever need to vent, Im in the same boat

I am planning a Long Island wedding from GA, so i know exactly how you feel, its extremely frustrating when you find vendors, or speak to vendors, but can't just jump in your car and drive over to there location to meet with them. Being a plane ride away believe me i know exactly how you feel.
I felt the best way to ease the stress is when you do know you are going to be on LI call all your vendors ahead of time and book appointments far in advance, explain to them you are an out of state bride, i did this and many of the vendors were willing to come and meet me even on there days off because i explained to them i was only going to be in town for certain days.... and also many of them sent me information in the mail to Atlanta so i could see more info on the vendors before our meeting...i HTH and feel free to FM me at any time bc i know how you feel

i know how you feel!!! I'm planning an LI wedding from Philly and while its not that far, it definitely gets really annoying at times. Luckily, we have time to plan! I think the best thing to do is do as much as your research online and on the phone as possible. Narrow each vendor selection down to 4 or less, meet with those and then decide. Feel free to FM bc I know what you mean! Its def stressful at times.

Here is an out of town bride thread that has some helpful advice Click Here
