Long Island Bride in DESPERATE NEED of your advice!!!

Original post by WishfulRinne

Hello my fellow Brides!

I need your honest, blunt, opinions please. I have been engaged for about a year now. There have been many disagreements concerning the reception between my Fn and I. We will be paying for the wedding by ourselves and he does not agree with spending 20k or more on one day. In fact he wants to spend the smallest amount of money as possible. I partly agree with him however, part of me wants my dream wedding :(

I have searched the web insanly trying to find the most costly reception site on Long Island. This has left me with nothing. Of course we would like to get married in July (most expensive month) and would have between 100-150 guests. The day does not matter...I was wishing for 2009(I know I need to get moving)

My question is if you could share with me your cheap reception site finds, web surfing tips, areas to cut back etc. I would really appreciate your help. I have literally made myself crazy looking online.

Just to add a little soft spot to this...I was the girl that said she would never get married...I wanted to support myself...blah,blah LOL. The day I met my FN, I knew he was the one. He changed my mind and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him:)

Any comments, help would be greatly appreciated.

since u really love july, i would suggest getting married on a thur, fri, or sun in the day time.

be very strict w/ ur guest list because that is the main thing that will affect your budget

there's so many things u can do to keep the budget down. u can definitely do it for 20k.

but if u have the funds to pull things off, u don't have to scimp too much. it's YOUR day and your money!

I have a friend who got married in July on a Saturday night last year at the Vanderbitl Mansion in Centerport. She had to bring in a caterer, alcohol, tables and chairs, etc. so it was a little more legwork for her and her husband, however, they did it ALL for under 15K, and it was one of the most amazing weddings I've ever been to. It was gorgeous and outside in the courtyard.

Congratulations to you and your fh!!

Just something to think about.....we changed our wedding from Oct to Nov, and just by changing that one month the price of our RH dropped $30/pp. Definitly worth considering. Happy planning!

a really reasonable place to check out is the Memorare Club in Seaford, NY. It's a Knights of Columbus hall, but they do a fantastic job & it is really very pretty. My sister had her reception there, and they saved a ton of money. In comparison to my brother who was married at the Crest Hollow Country Club, the Memorare Club was just as nice and half the price. My FH and I checked it out and they were SO reasonable etc. we fig'd it would cost us like 16k for 200 people with EVERYTHING included & we have definitely been debating it! Here's the info for the place, it's close the parkways etc so it's really simple to get to!
