Re: long or short dresses
I don't think there are any MUSTS in wedding planning. If you want your BMs in gowns, then that is what they wear. If you want them in polka dots, then that is it.
It's your day....whatever you want goes!

I completely agree. The days when there was a strict protocal for everything at a wedding are long past. It is your day, do what you want!
PS: There are plently of cute, not too formal long gowns out now that would be perfect for an early wedding.

They are no rules just as there are no seasons for dresses anymore in my opionion. You can get any color dress/style at any time.
Go for the gowns if that is what you want. Keeping in mind you are getting married in June and it could reach 90 or so.

there are no musts...i do like it when the bride and maids have the same hemline. I think the fabric is more important, if you are outside in the am, I like less shiny textures. I also think there are some really cute ankle-long gowns, something with a touch of retro could be really cute in the am.

i was going to suggest chiffon. i'm learning through this wedding process that there is no right or wrong to your wedding. you do what you want to do because in the end its your day and your memories and you make them how you want them to be

Exactly!
edited to add some unsolicted advice: Do what YOU want, not other people. Everyone will have opinions in this process, and if you did everything that everyone thought you should do, you'd be miserable

Re: long or short dresses
I have worn tea length and floor length dresses as a bridesmaid so I don't think there's a rule

I agree- also there are so many other choices in between those two... whatever fits your vision, the season, style, the girls and their wishes/budgets.. etc...

Chiffon is perfect, and looks best when full length, IMO. If you want long, go long . . . . there are definitely no rules, except one:
What the Bride wants, She Shall Have

There really isn't a rule for what kind of gown you get... I am getting married in Sept on a Sun afternoon and my BM's are in pink satin dresses and thats wayyy off compared to what people said I 'should have'... I didn't care... Thats what I want.. Go with what you love, Its your wedding honey!
